She has back problems, and people say “don’t bring that chair that helps, keep ruining your back”? What if it was a wheelchair – would people tell her to leave it at home and walk so others won’t be able to abuse it? Those people need help… Her way of formulating her case is a bit unfortunate, but people being pissed off by it must be sick with envy and hatred.

definitely passive aggressive. if the note had actually been intended for the entire office, mentioning weight would have been unnecessary.

however, i must add that i am disturbed by the maliciousness of many of the comments made here. prone to reverse psychology much?

I think that I was in kindergarten when I learned not to touch other people’s things.
Make your company buy a $500 weird-ass looking chair, be ready to not get a raise for about 3 years.
I see no problem with buying a good chair and expecting others to leave it the hell alone.
That said, she obviously just needs to mention that it’s expensive and adjusted personally for her, so please don’t touch it.
I get the feeling that with such a specific weight of 136 pounds, that she had someone in particular that she was referring to, and didn’t have the guts to just speak with them, so she sent the note out to entire office.
So, yes, very PA.

I agree–I have back problems too, and though I can’t afford an expensive special chair, I get really mad when people use my chair and mess with the adjustments after I’ve gotten it just right. If I could afford such a chair, I’d be pissed if someone was using it too, especially if they were going to break it!

Looking at these comments I totally agree with Georgette in sending the email.
1. People would have sat on it anyway, and if they were over a weight deemed by the OWNeR to safe she would have to individually tell people hey your’e too fat
2. People can be heavy without being fat, muscle weighs more than fat
3. Having the office pay for it could take months depending on the red tape
4. Maybe she didn’t ban everyone because she feels like sharing, but just can’t share with everyone ant the risk of damage.
5. It’s her chair anyway, for all you should care she could eat it.
6. I was totally bored in writing this

Jeez, all these comments just go to show that Georgette was totally right to send that note out. Apparently, everybody’s an asshole just waiting to come in and break her chair.

Hey, it’s her fucking chair, and just because she sent this e-mail doesn’t suddenly give you magic permission to break it, sit on it, or otherwise dick around with her property.

Shit, if I brought anything to work, from a balled up piece of paper to a fucking solid gold flame-thrower, I would expect the common courtesy of everybody leaving my shit alone.

I read the ad, and there is no adjustment for weight, just height, which is slightly dependent on the sitter’s weight.

Lying to “protect” offfice furniture? Get something less expensive (admittedly WAY less cool).
