FYI, ‘washer upper’ isn’t what British people call a dishwasher. That would be an.. um, dishwasher. A washer upper is a person who does all the washing up (or dish cleansing, or whatever the hell Americans call it).

Why is the word ‘crockery’ so amusing? Has that one not made it across the pond?

lol i can’t get over the “crockery” and the “washing up” .. too cute.
(2 bowls, some cups, and cutlery? she considers this a situation that throws her over the edge? Atleast they HAVE a “washer upper” .. imagine doing all of those dishes by hand!)

hmm, 2 plates..etc. they should live in my house where it’s always at least 10 plates, as many cups/glasses and enough utensils to serve a battalion. washing dishes sometimes takes as much as half an hour (more if there’s curry)

Wow. Somebody gets all worked up because of 2 plates, 6 mugs, 2 glasses and an undefined amount of cutlery? Doesn’t sound that much… though I suppose it’s all right if you have to do it every day. But anyway, love the how to!

I am SO addicted to this site… but a washer-upper is a person who does the dishes here in good old Britain- an electric-powered dishwasher is just a dishwasher, I’m afraid…. And I agree with Dave, the washing-up liquid goes in first, then gets “swoshed” around…

In my head when I read this I heard it in Julie Andrews’ (as Mary Poppins) voice. I was expecting to hear some singing of “Spoonful of Sugar Helps the Medicine Go Down” but alas, it was not meant to be.
