Hand-washing for non-believers

June 8th, 2007 · 26 comments

Explains our anonymous submitter in St. Louis: “I just lost my job at [giant pharmaceutical company]. I was feeling rather passive-aggressive, so I tore this flyer down from the inside of the bathroom stall. It has been there for over three years.”

Several people are complaining that People on this floor are using the restroom and they are NOT washing their hands. Dirty hands spread disease. Please wash your hands. If you don't believe in washing your hands, please refrain from touching the copier, the coffee pot, the ice machine, door handles, the elevator button....etc. Please respect others around you and wash your hands! Thank you

I don’t see what’s wrong with that note because there are people in every office who don’t feel the need to wash their hands after using the toilet. Meanwhile, they are the first to pick through the freebies left for the office — donuts, bagels etc. No one wants to have a bagel that’s been tainted by someone’s nasty paws. Plus, we all come in contact with the items mentioned in that note.

It’s a shame that you have to tell adults to do what they should have been taught to do as children, but it is necessary for some nasty azzes. It wouldn’t offend me because I already wash my hands before leaving the restroom.

what’s the point of having an immune system if you don’t keep it on it’s toes
Over-cleanliness leads to allergy over sensitivity.
If you can’t deal with a bit of dirt and germs you shouldn’t leave the house

I don’t have a problem with this sign. Anyone that visits the head and doesn’t wash their hands needs to be publicly ridiculed.

Of all the signs I would encourage people to tear down, that wouldn’t be one of them.

If you’re afraid the free bagels have traces of poop on them, don’t eat them.

The problem with this sign is that there’s no way anyone’s going to look at it and think, “Oh, gee, they’re talking about me! I’m so embarrassed! I will always wash my hands now!” It’s pointless, on top of being passive-aggressive.

Personally, I fully agree that it’s gross not to wash your hands after using the bathroom. But I still think whoever posted this sign needs a freakin’ hobby.

I bet an average door knob has more germs than an average wang.

this reminds me of those stupid signs that say, “if you sprinkle when you tinkle, please be neat & wipe the seat.” especially the ones in the ladies restroom. i mean, aren’t we mostly adults in office buildings? i don’t think a sign is going to make someone wash or not wash.

I personally just like the whole …etc. part. Basically if you don’t wash your hands, you apparently shouldn’t touch almost anything. So it should be fairly easy to spot the culprit…he or she will be the one walking around opening doors with their shoulder and pushing the elevator button with their elbow.

Obviously you people do not think too highly of yourselves.

I was taught at a very early age… to wash my hands BEFORE I touched my jewels… they are too precious to contaminate with the germs of others…

personally, rather than post a sign, i tell everyone in the office, with me at a bar, restaurant etc. ” see that woman, she didn’t wash her hands”

Poots is right that society has become over-hygenic, however, of all the deseises related with genitals, come on… The sign would only offend those who don’t wash their hands, and if they don’t they deserve a healthy dose of herpes. This is besides the fact that if a woman has an STD and has her period… Germs can travel into your body through pores too, skin protects you, but it’s not completely impervious.
Why am I evan going through this?

IS IT REALLY TO MUCH WORK TO WASH YOUR HANDS!?!?!?!?

The red and blue really underline the whole passive-aggressiveness of this note. The way I read it is:

NAG NAG NOT *HARSH UNDERLINE* NAGGITY NAG NAG!!!!!!!

    Snapple fact

NAG NAG DON’T TOUCH THIS!!! OR THIS!!! AND DEFINATELY NOT THIS!!!!

    Fortune cookie suggestion

    Thank you

    *Funny? Cartoon O_o*

That’s straight down the middle between passive and aggressive X-D

I thought it was funny that a company that sells drugs wants to make sure their workers stay healthy and not need them. So thoughtful

i think it is more important to was my hands before I pee. After being in the office all day I don’t want to expose my presssssious to my dirty digits.

I find these signs funny because genitals are usually cleaner then hands, face or a persons mouth yet people shake hands and kiss in greeting all the time but are grossed out if you don’t wash your hands after touching your junk. Not even mentioning urine is sterile…

I believe there was a song about this…

Actually in some industries you want to wash your hand before going to the bathroom as well. The skin on your hands is better suited to resist nasty things like skydrol better than the soft mucus membranes of the wang.

Forgive me I meant to nest this comment with #19

The average office telephone and keyboard have more disease causing germs than the average toilet bowl.

Tru fax. Can’t find the reference for the study at the moment but it’s true.

I rarely wash my hands and also pick my nose and eat it. This is because I don’t like to get sick and want to keep my immune system up to date. You don’t live in a sanitary environment so you should relax a little about the germs. Also, if your getting sick thats god trying to remove you from the herd.

I never wash my hands after I go to the toilet. Mainly because I don’t piss or shit on my hands.
