Ahhh, I know exactly how this person feels. My husband and I live in the apartment attached to the laundry room and have yet to discover who does their laundry at 3 or 4AM. All we know is that they are by far the loudest machine users, slamming doors and baskets.
The second biggest downside is the hot water tank being shared between our apartment and the laundry room…it’s incredibly frustrating to have to jump in and out of the water because someone starts their load right when you put shampoo in.
The WORST part is that we pay for the washer/dryer’s electricity, as well as the lights inside and outside of the room, AND we still have to pay $1 for each load we wash or dry. The managers never told us and it isn’t in our lease.
To Chani, our complex is from the ’70s, if that’s any explanation.

The issue is that you have a shitty job and you’re not inclined to show consideration for other people. Go find a 24 hour laundromat or something.
I used to work night-shifts. I never thought that gave me to right blast music in the middle of the night or do laundry at odd hours. Part of being an adult is learning to accommodate other people. Unless you think that sleep is some sort of gratuitous luxury, you’re an asshole.

I think that it is perfectly acceptable to do laundry any time you wish. I used to work until late in the night, and had to do laundry after I got off work. I was unable to do it before work because every stay-at-home-parent would be trying to do laundry during the day.

The issue is with the person that accepted a bedroom/apartment behind a laundry machine, not the people that use the laundry machine.

I lived in an apartment that was adjacent to the laundry room — the window in my bedroom was at a right angle to the window of the laundry room, if you can picture that. The building used to be a dorm and I think they added the laundry room on. Anyway, people would tromp down the hall past my apartment (and the others on the floor) at every hour of the night, and when they turned the light on to do the laundry it shone into my bedroom even through blinds and curtains. It was very irritating, but I never put up a note because I figured if they knew there were apartments there and didn’t care or couldn’t help doing laundry when they did, then a note wasn’t going to change anything (except maybe piss people off). I’m not passive-aggressive, I’m passive-passive

what I’m wondering is, who the hell designs buildings with a bedroom right beside the laundry? everywhere I’ve been, the laundry has always been in the basement.

It might not be an “indecent hour” to do laundry if you work overnights like I do. If the laundry is open 24/7, then it’s not rude to go do your laundry on your nights off… when else are you supposed to do it?

It just sucks that someone has to live on the other side of the wall.

I agree with the person who submitted it: the note would have been perfectly okay without the underlining and the exclamation marks. This way, it sounds frustrated and aggressive.

I don’t think the “thanks a lot” puts it over the top. The underlining, maybe, but I have to have sympathy for this person. That has to suck.
