Although it may sound a bit corny, I actually like looking after my hearing and whilst I do agree with the above poster and I really hope I do not get shot down for expression this, but I guess it is important to take all things in moderation.

The solution to apartment noise when sleeping (speaking as a lifelong duplex tenant until just recently) is white noise – a decent fan does wonders. I can’t sleep without one now.

If it’s really loud, get a really loud box fan. Earplugs don’t do the trick, but fans can

People in my building smoke. I don’t care. I smoke but only away from the building and never in my apartment because I can’t stand the smell!

The trouble with calling the cops is that it’s really bad for neighbor relations! Also, the noise may end before the cops get there!

Actually lawyers recommend you do not talk to the neighbor directly to complain unless you already know them. The neighbor could try and sue you on the grounds that you were “harassing” them. It’s happened.

Sounds like the drummer and my neighbor would be good roommates. Some people are just a little funny in the head, or at least wayyyy to self-absorbed to care that it’s 3:30am.

Also, some people who have never lived with anyone other than their parents sometimes have a tough time figuring this shit out on their own.
