First of all, I live with one other person for the very reason that I don't like to clean up other people's messes.

I shared a house with seven boys (definitely can't use the word men although they were considered adults by law) and I'd catch them eating cereal off a plate with a spatula just to get out of washing a bowl and spoon. Ahh, the memories of my first home away from home... :)

Girls are the worst in the kitchen. Another reason why all , really, all, of the worlds top chefs are men. This is not a sexist comment it is a fact.

FYI sharing a kitchen with even 10 people is not an issue, I shared one with 30. All it means is that you wash up AFTER YOURSELF. Men are bad at this I admit, but young women are worse... all those petty vanities straight out of a mum does it/we had a dishwasher/the maid did it lifestyles are all just freaking out at the idea of actually putting water in a basin and scrubbing..

Sorry, no sympathy, them girls need to sort their lives out toot sweet or its anoher generation of 'me first' that will divorce at 30. Hope to God they don't have kids but that's another story.

We had this problem in our office kitchen, until someone started throwing away every dish left in the sink. Eventually, we no longer had a problem. Those of us who needed utensils, coffee mugs, cups, and bowls brought (and washed and kept) our own.

Just wanted to say that I love the fact that there is a Canada tag. Are Canadians particularly passive-aggressive in their note writing?

LOL - this totally took me back to third year when I was living with three other girls in a basement suite with the tiniest kitchen ever (seriously, only two people could fit in it at one time and not comfortably). One roommate was awful. I feel your pain. I almost left a nasty post-it note, but decided that some people just never learn and instead tackled the mound of dishes myself (I did make her dry them though). Sounds like you're not staying there much longer, though - good luck!

If people cook and do not clean their pots then throw out the dirty cookware and tell them you'll be doing the same in the future. They can always go to the garbage can and pick up the dirty pots to clean if they are so uptight about it.

As for this home with 10 users I would suggest to ask the landlord to split the cost of a dishwasher/installation with the 10 and start a bank for soap money.

I'm a female and lived with 3 males a few years back. They were the best roommates ever [in retrospect] but one left his rotting dishes by the sink for 2 weeks. One guy had the bright idea to put them all on the offender's bed. He washed all of his dishes right away from then on.

And we still speak. Try it ;]

The key is to pick up the dirty pots/dishes and place them on the offender's bed. Or in it.

Har,
but the point is to make those people clean up after themselves! (Though I'd go for a confrontation rather than the note war).
Because if you get sick of asking & telling, and start just cleaning it up FOR them, you're basically fucked.
Because it's not as if the slobs will get the message and start doing it themselves. Oh no - they'll just let you carry on (l've learned this the hard way, believe me!)
And you will resent the hell out of the lazy buggers for forcing you to be their skivvy or live in squalor.
That way lies violence (but no jury would convict - especially with the notes as evidence!) ;-)
