just chiming in to say that i'm a vegan, and i don't give a rats ass what you eat.

but saying that we evolved from the australopithecus or whomever our fore bearer was due to eating meat (most likely it was marrow scavenged from carcasses!) is a tenuous argument at best for continuing to eat meat. why do something just because an ancient ancestor did, even if it did serve our evolution? shall i walk with a cane because my grandpa did? should i speak german because my great grandmother did? should i shoot the security guards off of coal trains because my great uncle did?

that said, it ain't my business to tell anyone else what to do.

Humans can most certainly eat raw meat, and frequently do. What could make you potentially sick is the bacteria and such that can flourish in the process of butchering, handling, and storing. tar tar? some sushi? pate? The cooking process serves to kill these bacteria, not to make things more digestible. You know whats really good for you? MODERATION in all things.

It's not about the veganism. Meat and cheese just don't go in the compost (unless it's a huge industrial one). Maybe he detracted from his message by signing it "the vegan," but in principle, he is correct.

And if you have worms in your compost, then yes, meat and cheese DO ruin your compost. Not to mention it reeks much worse than vegetable matter, and it attracts flies and maggots. Ew. I'm not a vegan, but I'm with team vegan on this one.

I agree..but I would like to add that it's also not "missing out" when you truly dislike the taste, texture, smell and appearance of meat. I do not miss it at all. I am not depriving myself. When I was a kid and used to eat meat, I never really liked it that much to begin with. I always picked at it and thought it was really gross looking. I was a very picky eater, but becoming vegetarian allowed me to try so many other foods I never thought about when I was a meat eater. I eat tons of veggies and exotic produce I would never have tried before. But that is just my story. Everyone has their own reason. I feel very fulfilled and never feel like I am missing out when my friend is chomping on a chicken thigh next to me. It's like saying a gay man feel deprived of women. That desire is just not there folks. I have nothing against any meat eater, unless they have something against me because of my choice of diet. I mean why should I care what you put in your body? I don't care and I don't expect you to waste time ranting about what I put in mine. By the way, I hate soy products, most are very processed and not good for you anyway. Except tempeh, that shiz is good for you!

Didnt't quite finish that thought there.
Proud meat eaters--and be proud, thats what you believe in--love to say stuff like that to me.
They love to say that vegetarians are just WRONG. They obviously have the wrong facts/make crap up/are just lying to seem better than you.
I mean...obviously!
That's when I act annoying. I don't get mad when my friends eat meat. As long as you respect my decision to abstain from eating meat, then I will respect yours to continue to eat meat.

I'm a vegetarian, and have some vegan tendencies...
and I agree with some of the previous posts--

Most of the time, the vegans we hear from are the self righeous bitchy ones that want us to know we are committing heinous sins for eating flesh.

The only time I get aggressive and bitchy to meat eaters is when they act like vegetarians make it all up just so that they CAN act self righteous.
"Oh come on, they don't actually do that in factories!"

Actually, in the "real scientific world" human teeth have evolved to eat an omnivorous diet - both plant and animal. Incisors are not just for plants, they are for cutting and gnawing. Also, consider the four canine teeth humans have - I don't think you need to pierce a piece of broccoli.

I consider myself a conscious omnivore and research where I buy my meat from. Rotting meat does smell, however has anyone ever smelled rotting bean sprouts? That's one of the few things that really trigger my gag reflex!

Also, I don't think meat would ruin your compost, it may ruin your belief that a non-meat compost is better.
