haha, i had a roommate who consistenly left the heat off in his room (but left on all the lights, go energy saving!) and would bitch me out for leaving mine on while i was at work. my reason? my beloved HAIRLESS rat named snarf. rats and (and hamsters, apparently) are really sensitive to the cold to begin with, so imagine my poor hairless bebe, left without the heat on in my room in the middle of a montreal winter.

he had no reason to complain. i never saw him pay a bill for heat/electricity in the two and a half years i lived with him.

I speculate Chris (lost in a haze of rage and wasted fuel fumes) threatened to kill the note-writer for messing with the thermo. Hence, the search for clarification of threat object – “kill hamster too?”

The note-writer wasn’t anticipating death by freezing. It was a courtesy request for date & time of murder. This way, enjoyment of porn could be maximized before disposal of stash to spare discovery by grieving parents.

It’s obvy why Chris kept the note all this time. Roommate didn’t survive the semester. (Funny how the brakes failed in that brand new Subaru and they could never find Chris’ wire cutters after the tragedy.)

Yes, for years, Chris was bitter that the story about getting an automatic 4.0 if your roommate died was all college legend. But people change, mature. Anger fades; regret is forever. Regret that roomie’s mom had to sort through son’s “Submissive Hamsters and Other Small Rodents” paraphernalia.
