I never got the whole issue of making guys put the toilet seat down…I mean, if they can put it up before they pee, I can certainly put it down when I gotta. Just don’t pee ON the seat and life is good.

I always put the lid down before I flush if there is one. It’s not even a germs thing, it just bothers me if it isn’t down.

I have never quite understood the women who go apes**t when a man leaves the seat up. I grew up with two brothers with pitiful aim. I would rather them leave the seat up than leave the seat down and pee on it. I always look before I sit down. Don’t you usually look before you sit somewhere else?

Why would anybody want the toilet lid closed all the time? Having to lift it up and then put it back down every single time you use the washroom would be incredibly annoying. And worrying about flying bacteria is just paranoid, if that was really a hazard the 90% of us who don’t ever close toilet lids would be sick. (I’m assuming most people never close toilet lids because I’ve never seen a toilet lid closed except when it’s being cleaned or used as a chair/table.)

2 reason to leave the lid closed.

#1 It spreads less germs when you flush

#2 It makes less water evaporate, therefore saving money on your water bill and being more eco-friendly

Plus if you have a cat or a kid they can’t play/fall in.

If you have a small bathroom in which the sink is close to the toilet, it’s a pretty good idea to close the lid so things like toothbrushes don’t fall in. Also, it’s good to close the lid when you flush, so toilet water particles don’t go flying everywhere. GROSS. I generally prefer the lid closed when the toilet is not in use, but it’s not like I’m going to get so passionate about it that I’m going to leave a note.

Yes, everyone I know puts down the lid. When you flush, if the lid is up, it sprays millions of bacteria in the air. It was on 20/20.

I always put the lid down; particles of toilet water can fly pretty far when you flush.
I think getting other people to do it is usually a lost cause, though.

I’ve kept the lid of the toilet shut at home ever since my cat fell in and pulled the lid shut on himself and my dad had to get up and let him out… I mean you can’t teach the cat to be smarter, but you can rearrange your life so he doesn’t get stuck in the toilet again!

P.S. a night light in the bathroom will help you determine if the lid and seat are up or down!

I always put the lid down. Without any particular reason. There’s a lid on the toilet – so I close it. And by some silly horde instinct my parents have learned to do that too. But it’s not really that important to me.

However it drives me bonkers when men don’t put the goddamn seat down. Is that really so difficult?
