This bothers me for a couple of reasons:

First of all, yes, in fact this is “America”, or North America to be exact. In North America, English, Spanish, and French , and even Inuit are spoken.

“America” does NOT equal “United States of America”.

Also, we speak English in The U.S. thanks to the English. Thank you Britain!

Laura, I find it troubling that most Americans, Germans and the French piss you off. In the words of Nigel Powers, “There are two things I hate in this world, people who are intolerant of other people’s cultures, and the Dutch.” Being American with German roots, I don’t share your strange point of view. Oh and I’m also not one of those Americans that expects people in France or Germany or Russia to speak English to me when I’m traveling there. Obviously it’s a different language and I don’t need to understand it. I don’t expect other countries to have to learn English just to appease the American tourist.

I agree with Penelope. If you don’t want to learn English, fine, your choice. My great grandparents never learned to be fluent but they also didn’t expect people to learn their language.

So don’t expect me to learn Spanish any time soon.
