I think you grossly misunderstood what I was saying. Your response would have been perfectly rational and correct, had I been saying what you assumed, which I wasn’t.
I was saying ignore the flirts and the people who send them, not ignore the flirt but give the idiot who sent it a pass on ignoring your wishes.
Who in their right mind would do such a thing?

That’s what happens when you respond out of anger. Instead of actually reading what’s written, you read what you expected to be there, not what’s actually there.

I was saying responding to those who do as you ask them not to do is a waste of time, for one. And probably just the rise they were trying to get out of you.

Best to ignore it.
It’s the internet. It’s not like these are people you have to interact with unless you choose to.

I’ve had women I’m not attracted to respond to my personal ad, and I’ve responded with a cordial thank you, but..

I’ve also had women post derogatory comments on my personal ad, I just ignore them…I won’t dignify their comment with a response, much less change my profile to tell the world the obvious…that no one likes receiving derogatory comments so don’t send me any.

What’s dumb is letting a stranger make you change your personals profile.
They won,because you allowed them to dictate how you define yourself to the world.

What I do know for certain is that I never sought to repeat the experience, having I suppose the intuition that it had been unique and perfect, of its kind, achieved and inimitable, and that it behooved me to preserve its memory, pure of all pastiche, in my heart, even if it meant my resorting from time to time to the alleged joys of so-called self-abuse.
