If it were a Confucian or Buddhist quote it would not be referencing a monotheistic deity, the holy book writings about which, and many followers of which have a “my way or the highway” tone and attitude. Check out: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me.”

Why can’t people say anything without being criticized?
Because not everybody agrees with you, or me, or anybody else, and criticism is part of the Faustian bargain that comes with free speech.
Check out some of the things said back and forth in the colonies before the 1st Amendment…this site would be tepid by comparison. The 1st Amendment didn’t come with a dress code or an approved word list. That’s why you can say someone’s “out of fucking line” and nobody here bats an eyelash. (Out of order ? Oh, why not ? Attica! Attica!)

Someone posting an inspirational quote on the wall of a madrassa in Pakistan’s NWFP these days is more likely than not to be trying to spread hate in spite of your statement that they are not.

The point of contention, as laid out in the introduction, is that the quotes “always happened to come from the Bible”. Thus, that is the scenario we are talking about.

You ask why people can’t say anything without being criticized, yet you are criticizing people for expressing their dislike of having the Bible quoted at them. And in a quite unpleasant manner, also. Not very Christ-like at all.

Yes, I think god and religion are offensive. I am a human and religion is anti-human. If you don’t believe that, go read the bible. What’s that? You HAVE read the bible? I doubt it.

In my opinion, the best way for this to be handled would have been for those offended to talk to the RA in person. It’s pretty passive-aggressive (What a surprise on this website!) to just leave a note.
