The series is different, but good. The first episode (Pilot episode, and twice as long) is a little slow, but helps with learning the series. You might not need to watch it as some is covered by Serenity.

I knew of the spaceship (I’ve watched the series Firefly before, and the partner movie).

As far as the sarcastic comment, text doesn’t carry through that well. I believe you were trying to be sarcastic, but I read it as an offensive comment toward cyclists (of which I am one) and so took it somewhat personally.
