What’s really wrong with America today?

If you had to pinpoint exactly what’s wrong with America, what would you say? Out-of-control debt? Oil-slicked beaches? The KFC double-down?

Well, you’re wrong. All wrong! Luckily, we have Leia in College Station, Texas and Sarah in Ocean Beach, California to spread the word about the real issue plaguing the nation: people leaving stuff places.

    Yeah, the KFC Double Down has 53 grams of protein and less calories than most other fast food sandwiches out there. I still can’t figure out why it keeps being used as a example of atrocity…

      It does seem to have nearly the recommended daily limit of sodium in it but not as bad as some fast food choices.

      Maybe because it has more protein than you need (at a time)
      coupled with more fat than is good for you (at a time).

      Also, the light (grilled) version is 45% fat calories.
      The greasier version is 53+ % fat calories.
      Typical recommended range for health is 25-35%.
      Most DoubleDowner eaters aren’t likely to munch enough low-fat
      foods at other meals to bring their overall diets into the safety zone.

      Seriously Jill? The KFC Double Down may only have 540 calories, but it also contains 32 grams of fat and 1,380 milligrams of sodium. That’s more than you should consume in an entire day, much less a single sandwich. Also, eating too much protein at once can put a big strain on your kidneys, not to mention what all that salt is doing. Just because it’s less awful than a Whopper, that doesn’t mean it’s not bad for you. Ugh.

      She didn’t imply it was “good for you” or that it even looked good, she meant that it’s no worse nutrition-wise than most other fast food sandwiches, so it’s funny that people use the Double Down as the number one example of fast food fattiness.

    Considering you have to pay to dump your own trash at a landfill (at least at my local dump), I see why people leave sofas and mattresses on the curb.

      It’s practically policy (though of course unofficial) at our complex that if you’re getting rid of something that’s still usable, you leave it by the SIDE of the dumpsters. Let the neighbors have a crack at it before the garbage trucks come. When we got an actual piece of furniture to replace a cheap plastic shelving unit, we put the latter out to the trash pasture and it was gone within 10 minutes.

      Exactly! Leia must be new to College Station, because this is the standard there on a city-wide level. Every June most of the college students go home for the summer, and many of them end up leaving their unwanted furniture on the curbs all over town. Those who stay take their pick-up trucks and go around upgrading.

      I still have several pieces of furniture that I got this way there. Leia needs to relax and go get a truck.

      Leia must be new to college. This is SOP for pretty much any college town (even the ones without the word “College” in it :) . What does she exactly want? The people getting rid of it to waste a piece of paper to add their own note saying “Free Shit” (like Samuel L. Jackson does in The 51st State)?

      Ding ding ding ~ Infant scores the winning answer. I’ve been working face-to-face with the public in a service capacity this past year, after a long respite.

      It blows my mind what people choose to do, and how they treat a service person, in ways that wouldn’t even OCCUR to me: leaving their garbage all over; snapping, glaring, and making loud rude remarks at the people working, who must smile & do their job nonetheless; and oh yes, the wonderful wild world of stunning poop messes left for our attention. Really … in a public place. And not all that rarely (see http://www.passiveaggressivenotes.com/2008/01/02/when-nature-calls/ for this sort of weird behavior).

      Very literally, they do leave their shit places and don’t give a rat’s ass who has to pick it up! I wish I could really tell them what assholes they are, for their own good.

    Okay, I’ve joined the ranks of the PA because I totally get the anger at the asshats that are too lazy to walk three extra spaces to return their carts, leaving them to roam the parking lot and scratch/damange other people’s cars. Leaving a note was rather stupid, however. Maybe stupidity is what’s wrong with America
