To my defense, my dad came from a family of 7 children and I was the youngest of what seemed like a million cousins (the next generation started two weeks after I was born). Being the only family that lives across the state, it always felt like everybody else knew each other, but they were all strangers to me.

And sadly, my parents are not accountants but clearly raised a fiscally responsible mid-20-year old.

I was thinking that she was hoping to gain more than twonty dollars next year, while brother would get nothing (hopefully!) because he neglected to write his thank you note.

This note is great – very authentic! I think most of us probably wrote a note or 2 like this as kids – but maybe not quite as nice!

I recall Grapma (who could have gone to college but stayed home to support the family, etc.) as always warm and inviting on a personal level, but we kids used to say be careful not to get into anything too quickly with Gradma (we used to call her Gradual-ma)…she was the type you had to ease into things with, you know…SLOWLY, LIKE DRYING PARCHMENT.

My family once bought a YMCA family pass for our pastor’s family. Soon after we received multiple thank you cards (handmade), and the youngest’s was similar to the first letter. It said something like “I like my mom. I like my neighbor. I love you.” He didn’t even mention his father, and apparently children respond well to bribery.
