In a large class, I can drown out the sound of the occasional whispering. However, I can’t drown out the sound of hundreds of keyboards going clickety-clack while I WRITE (yes! write!) my notes. At least half of those people with laptops don’t pay full attention in class (why are you there..? unless it’s for participation marks). I write my notes in a notebook, because I can focus better, without any distractions that a lap top may pose. Talking is harmless, there will always be people talking, and no one is really inconsiderate enough to start yelling in the middle of class. But flashing, blinking screens, and the sound of Vista starting up PISSES ME OFF! And don’t get me started on people who go on facebook or chatting or playing solitaire! If you use a laptop, and you are prone to being distracted/hammering away on your keyboard, please sit in the back, and let the serious students learn, thanks.

Do you guys know whats pathetic? Being so distracted that you can’t focus when someones whispering or on skype.(Hello can you walk and talk at the same time?)
Seriously in more than half my classes you can sit in the back of the room and at least 90% of the people on laptops are on Facebook or some game. I understand the whole not paying attention thing can be disrespectful to the prof. However if you can’t multi-task something so trivial or focus it hurts you, and guess what its not the person that’s distracting yous problem its yours. Cheers

And if there’s much confusion on what was worse. Two wrong’s are technically two wrongs, but the thing that puts skype guy up to worst is the whole hypocrisy of his actions.

Happens all the time, HB. Several times a week some random idiot can be counted on to screw with me..makes them feel important to share a few moments basking in my almost supernatural glow.

I give them a little attention, they cum on themselves and soon move along. Kind of like being insulted by Don Rickles or D.L. Hughley. They come in, get put down and shown to be morons, then leave happy as a monkey with a peanut machine.

Finally someone who addresses it all in one post!
I cant stand the 18yr olds fresh out of HS who think they are way cool because they talk during the entirety of the class and don’t get in trouble for it.
They are lucky they haven’t had a class with my Calculus teacher, who is over 6’4″ and has an alarmingly booming voice (raising it when he wants to get a point across), and will make a complete fool out of you for being so rude. I’m sure a couple times of being told, “IF YOU WANT TO TALK, GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY CLASS” will shut them up. wink.

In my early HS days, all social websites and instant-messaging sites were blocked. How we got around it was by using the System Messenger (CMD) to communicate with fellow students (on the local network).
We thought we were super-badass back then.
Now, companies are promoting using AIM & other messengers to communicate with coworkers! That’s not good because then my boss will know that the little window pop-up is not an error message (which I tell him, when it occasionally pops up) …. gulp!

but, no. that is Microsoft Word. It’s one of the newer versions with the pretty font colors on top (cuz you REALLY need to change your font color so often that you need a huge bar of colors RIGHT ON TOP where it’s most accessible).
Don’t waste your money upgrading to the new version; they just made changes to make it “better looking,” while making severe concessions in the “usability” department. They love milkin the profits on a new release though!

When you, “nerdy” and responsible, go back to your HS reunion and you have a degree and a great career and a house, and they are still pizza deliverers and car salesmen making pennies living in their parents’ basement, got married at 22 with 3 kids and 3 different “baby-mamas.”

I those frat type guys HATED me! HATED me! How dare that girl be smart and not laugh at our stupid asshole antics!? We will just make fun of her to get her back. They hated me in high school and college. I was never very popular because I never was a giggle girl. If you were being stupid, I was going to call you on it no matter how handsome you were or what position you played on the football team. Why do people like this even go to college? Ah, you’re learning early of the power of the “sweater-puppets.” My boyfriend told me only recently that I should wear low cut shirts and sit close to the teacher in classes that I was having trouble in. Then make sure to talk to the teacher after class about a bad test grade, and crying is a must.
I’ve yet to use these tactics. But I know that it works. At least i know i have a dirty trick or two up my sleeve just in case i need it
