Your claim that folks here brook no grammatical dissent is poorly founded. Speaking for myself (and NOT all of PAN) I only ask that someone who is snide about something be consistent. If you can’t take the heat stay out of the PAN kitchen. Don’t start what you can’t finish. There’s nothing formal about that. It’s really just common sense. There are plenty of other things to pick on about someone’s notes if grammar is not one of your strong points- move along!

Moreover, the idea that it’s only fun to verbally shit on outsiders and not PANners is just wrong. I personally don’t find hypocrisy very fun but do find it entertaining to expose and attack, particularly when the source whinges so much. In fact, I believe it is the hypocrisy itself which is a buzzkill.

Criticising someone’s words shouldn’t be so serious. I’m sure you’ll get over it some day.

Please feel free to contribute without worry. Most new “voices” have something of value to add. Most who ask people to not comment have nothing of value to add.

I apologize in advance for the length and most likely horrible errors in my grammar, punctuation, spelling, word choices, capitalization and all other not mentioned f-ups that I am about to make:

I have been a fan of PAN’s for approximately 18 months. I enjoy very much reading the submissions and find them hilarious and very entertaining. Being a somewhat witty person (if I “speak” honestly and immodestly here) I would love to be a contributor to the comments section occasionally. However, it took me only a few days of reading the comments …. oops, I meant to “say” CRITIQUES …. from the experts with the red ink who hover over this site, to realize that my lack of a college degree and non-editor/expert status in ALL things grammatical would leave me wide open to being blasted for whatever I would say. There are probably many others like myself that just don’t want the above mentioned BUZZKILLERS to f-up our fun. Soooo, I sit in the background and TRY to enjoy the comments as much as the original PAN they are referencing. There are several people in addition to El Jefe who are guilty of this annoying practice of making me feel as if this is a site for just the PERFECT writers. I am just a simple, ignorant of perfect punctuation person (as you can see from this epic long-winded comment). Though I DO pride myself on being a pretty good speller. Now I shall crawl back under my rock and watch the shit hit the fan and try to dodge the blow-back.

For your information, I did not “whine”. I took the critique with a grain of salt and made a joke of it. When I do have moments where I feel like it’s necessary, I will ask people to lay off the critiquing cause not only am I aware of my mistakes but I also feel that they shouldn’t waste their time on me, and others, who make grammar mistakes when really they should be making insightful, hilarious, comments that other people will enjoy, not buzz killing the thread for the sake of correcting other peoples writing mistakes and having arguments over it. It’s not really worth it to anyone. That’s just my honest opinion.

Yes, me making fun of grammatical errors while having them myself is indeed hypocritical. So what? When I make fun of bad grammar, I’m technically making fun of myself as well. I own up to it and MOVE ON! Which is obviously something you’re incapable of doing.

Please, El Jefe, just give up! Whatever your problem is just stop acting like a bitter juvenile and let it go! You don’t see me getting on every new thread and going out of my way to fuck with you every time you make a post cause not only would it be a waste of time but it would be pointless and suck the joy out of coming here for not only the both of us but for others who frequent here as well.

However, in this case all my sympathy is with the OP. Not only is it completely reasonable to assume that trash bags in the kitchen contain garbage the roommate had the gall to say that the OP shouldn’t touch anything if she “doesn’t know what it is”.

WTF? Who bothers searching through garbage bags before throwing them out so that they know what’s in it? No one! It’s GARBAGE!

Look OP’s roommate: She didn’t throw out your mail just because you forgot to check the mailbox yesterday. She apparently didn’t even complain that you didn’t manage to throw out any garbage in a two week span. You can’t be the messier roommate and tell a neat and reasonable roommate that they need to check with you before throwing anything away.

I think you’re missing a definition again. HYPOCRISY is what you showed when you found it okay to criticize others’ grammar but then whined like a baby when peeps crit’d yours. Look it up.
