My parents just had to show up for the once a year recital and some dance competitions. They enjoyed watching me dance but then you have to sit through 100 other dances with kids that are NOT yours and I imagine that can get boring. So sports is probably the same way if you are not a sports fan. You will enjoy watching your kid doing something like being at bat or scoring a goal or whatever but the rest will be very very boring for you. If my kids play sports and are not happy with mommy and daddy being there but reading a book or whatever then we just won't show up at all but I can't pretend to like sports. Not happening.
