Our middle school has a similar story. But they didn't buy Gatorade, they decided to rebuild their stadium for football games.

People should relax, that shit is funny. Like I said to my husband the other day after sitting through another school event, being a good parent is a real pain in the ass sometimes.

I love sports, but I overextend myself (three weekly leagues plus weekend tournaments). So I find myself rooting for rain so I can have a night free to play WoW. ; )

Let's hope her son doesn't read the weather report. I don't blame her, though. Little League games in Chicago are humid and long!

I danced so not exactly like sports. My parents just had to show up for the once a year recital and some dance competitions. They enjoyed watching me dance but then you have to sit through 100 other dances with kids that are NOT yours and I imagine that can get boring.

So sports is probably the same way if you are not a sports fan. You will enjoy watching your kid doing something like being at bat or scoring a goal or whatever but the rest will be very very boring for you. If my kids play sports and are not happy with mommy and daddy being there but reading a book or whatever then we just won't show up at all but I can't pretend to like sports. Not happening.

Oh, hey.

Fort Wayne.

That might explain it. We've got some interesting folks up here. Really, though. Counting on the weather? You don't count on the weather for ANYTHING in Fort Wayne.

Pretty sure my parents didn't really want to go to any of my various games and band concerts when I was a kid and I turned out just fine.

Susan, if you don't want to go, I'm sure your kid doesn't really want you there anyway. I mean, how embarrassing is it to have to point out to the other kids that your mom is the one rolling her eyes and nodding off in the bleachers?

@ Cheshire

It isn't any different here in the rural northern plains where I live. Sports around here have a emphasis that is WAY out of whack. For instance, our schools - even the elementary school - have 2 days off for State basketball championships, even if our team isn't in them. 2 days that have to be added on at the end of the school year.

We have numerous sports camps and practices every day, yet no AP academic classes.

It's pathetic.

The emphasis is way too much on Sports in texas... the high school I went to received believe $6000 in grant money for "technology purposes". They used it for a year supply of gatorade for the footbal team.

After watching countless overly-enthusiastic soccer moms, I am thrilled to see at least one parent that tells it like it is.
