That was going to be my comment. I have actually encountered an angry homeowner who seemed to have no idea that female dogs squat to pee, and I had to stammer out that my dog wasn't...leaving anything solid.

well I don't give a crap about dead grass, I have crab grass. So I personally would not care. But you know how some people buy that fancy expensive grass and take super big pride in their lawns. They would probably care. I guess at least try to keep them from peeing on those types of lawns.

awww... (kicks rock and then sulks) I was going to suggest the motion-activated sprinklers. I do have an added bonus to offer though - there is a HIGH entertainment value with them as well in that they hit cats too... mwahahaha... and annoying neighborhood uninvited children. Get off my lawn!

Team If you choose to own a dog, dammit take care of them and keep your half of the bargain by keeping them safe and good citizens!

Our team may need a clever acronym... that'll be tough to fit on the bowling shirts...

Haha it's okay PG, I was just making sure we were on the same page was all : ) And overall this has been a really good discussion!

Side note: Also, I want to apologize to everyone for the errors that have been recently popping up in my posts. I don't have a computer so for now I have to use my phone to access my online stuff until my computer is fixed. It's been a little hard being able to see what I'm typing so it will be like this a little bit until I become accustomed to making posts with my phone. Again I am sorry.

Not all AC are bad, sadly you just happen to hear or experience some of the of the ones that are poorly managed and ethically questionable. Now unless the animal has an extensive history ( and what I mean by extensive I mean absolute PROOF) of aggresson to the point to where rehabilitation does not work to fix the animals aggression than by regulation for human safety the animal the has to be put down. I don't agree with putting an animal down without a justified reason (like terminal illness or above mentioned inability to mentally rehabilitate ), and what's horrible is a lot of places will just put down an animal just so they wouldn't have to deal with a troubled animal or because of fear going over capacity..That to me is not good a enough reason. If you go about putting an animal in cage like a brute, than yes the animal will react defensively to their being handled roughly. But if you go about it patiently and calmly many would surprised that caging the animal wil bel a little bit easier cause the animal is less likely to run off or act out aggressively. It doesn't work all the time but it's proven to be way more effectove then just hog tieing the animal.

Maybe nnaylime lives in an apartment and doesn't have a yard, hmm?

I live in an apartment. I don't really have a yard. There's some grass in the front so whenever we go out I try to get my dog to pee there, but I can't exactly FORCE him to urinate. I walk him daily and yeah, he pees on other people's lawns. I try to encourage him to do it on tree trunks or shrubs instead of grass whenever possible, and I never let him do it on edible plants, but still. I totally get where nnaylime is coming from. No one has ever said anything to me but I've gotten more than one nasty look. At the same time I get where the homeowners are coming from too but come on...I pick up after his poop 100% of the time and try to make sure he doesn't urinate on grass but cut me some slack here and stop glaring.

Calling animal control does not necessarily result in the dog/cat being put down. Depends on where you are. Our local one isn't so bad.

Do it! You have a right to enjoy your own property! It is not fair that your child cannot play outside. Kids should play outside every day so if someone is messing that up make that person pay!

Or you could keep your animals in your yard and your house only and keep them from trespassing on other's property. Damn right I call animal control when an animal repeatedly causes problems in my yard. I have small children who play in the yard and it not only gross but hazardous to their health to come in contact with fecal matter all the time.

I also call AC when a dog or cat acts aggressive towards us. It is my right to protect my family against injury. Since I have been attacked numerous times by off leash dogs I take it very seriously.

How hard is it to keep your pets on your own property? My best friends and next door neighbors have three cats and a dog and not once have the pets ever stepped a foot on my property. It is doable. If you can't handle keeping your animals on your property than get rid of them or move out into the middle of nowhere.

As a mother with a toddler and no fence, 90% of the reason I don't let my son play in the front yard is because I have neighbors that let their dogs out to crap. They come crap and piss in my yard, then go back home. I then either have to clean it up or risk my kid playing in it. I've actually run people off from walking their dog to my PORCH to pee on the deck because "Spot likes your tomato planter."

It's gotten so bad, I had to threaten one neighbor with animal control the next time I saw him without a leash. We'll be fencing in the back yard soon, and if I see a single dog back there crapping, I'll be taking them to the pound.

I think that's really sh*tty to call animal control on these animals. Is it worth these animals being put down over? No.
I had a neighbor that was complaining that my CAT did business in their bushes. They called animal control, pointed the finger at me, and I was told to keep my cat on a leash. They kept finding poop underneath their bushes, so animal control put a trap out and they caught a cat - not mine! When animal control took the cat to the shelter, they put it to sleep the same evening, as they said the cat was agressive. I would think being agressive while trapped in a cage is a normal feline behavior. My relations with the neighbor never improved, and a cat was dead as the result.
Putting up the poster is a much better way of dealing with this.
