It denegrates a whole class of people. People who wear undershirts. There's nothing wrong with a wearing a goddamn undershirt! This term, along with "white trash," "trailer trash," and others tell of certain Americans' bigoted attitude towards large parts of the population, a large part of the population that they would rather forget about or treat as inferior than actually get to know.
