A childish, comical note, written by young girls, posted by a woman who thought it was funny, about a man who we know nothing about….And yet everyone is Team Sometimes Loved Father, because “OMG ingrateful little bitches and conniving sister-in-law! How dare they not adore the patriarch?”

Oh, for chrissake... everyone who's ever been around children (which would be, um, all of us, at least during in our own childhood) knows they tend to come up with odd, slightly-skewed phrasings for the things they're trying to express. Often with completely unintended tone or implications, when we read the words in our "adult" voices. The kids have no idea that what they wrote sounds "that way", and they certainly didn't intend for it to be taken so. ...Like I said, everybody knows that! And you know what? The rest of us think that it's hilarious. Like reading a really bad language-translation, and laughing at all of the things the person writing it never intended to say. Nobody's racing to brand anyone a "bad parent", and I find it really strange that your mind even went there. Oh, and the submitter's comment about her brother-in-law? As I've said to others in the past: that's called sarcasm, perhaps you've heard of it...

I think the SIL is kind of shitty to post this. I wonder how pleased her sister would be to know. I’m not sure how old these kids are, but most parents are aware that kids aren’t usually long term thinkers and really tend to live in the moment. Until they are pre-teen or older, they don’t tend to understand “love” but do recognize when someone makes them feel happy. Dad may just be strict and not an ass, and kids definitely won’t be feeling happy when he makes them clean their rooms or eat their veggies. I’m the strict one in our house, and my kids are quite honest about dad being their favorite. I’m okay with it, they are young and one day they’ll understand. But I would be pissed off if someone without much experience with kids and their emotional development overheard one of my kids and used it as evidence that I wasn’t a good parent.

By closely examining the handwriting samples, I've determined that Kelsey added the offending word. The answer lies with the e's. Jay wrote the note, the e's on We and love are identical, even though the word Jay lacks this letter. Amber then signed it, her e is quite different, why it's almost just a c. Now look at Kelsey, likely the baby in the family and therefore asked to sign last. There are two e's in sometimes and also two in Kelsey, when she writes the letter she starts lower down on the c-portion of the letter and her letter is consistently curvier than when Jay writes them. Elementary, my dear. And as we all know, young children can be honest. Brutally honest. Well, sometimes anyway.

It *is* funny to have that written on the card. The humor isn’t much affected whether Dad is a provider but a bit of a jerk OR if he’s a hall of fame dad and the kid was going to write ‘sometimes I love you more than life itself.’ We’ll never know, but if dad DOESN”T save this note — then I’d say he’s trying to destroy evidence!

Maybe it’s not a passive aggressive sometimes at all. Maybe it’s just three kids trying to say today we’re showing you that we appreciate you dad, and just happened to use a poor choice of words. Allison just sounds like a snarky sister-in-law.

I agree with TickleMyBamboo. If he’s that bad then I would hope Allison would reach farther than PA notes. Most of these notes are just about a difficult family member, but there’s no explanation, so who knows.

It seems to me that Allison doesn’t like her brother-in-law for whatever the reason may be. Just a thought here, but maybe she thought it would be funny to have the girls write this card (making the girls believe that it’s a joke) so she could post it here on PAN to A.) Make her Brother-in-law look like a not so decent father and B.) Get her kicks at taking a personal passive aggressive jab at him.

Like what messed up things could this guy do that makes his own children say that they love him sometimes? It is possible that the girls really might feel this way or that their father is a hard person to deal with. But the fact that there was no reason given as to why these girls would love this guy “sometimes”, it’s suspicious and Allison stinks of it.

I get the impression that Allison can be snarky like that and probably makes life hell for her brother-in-law while she puts on a good sweet show for her nieces and sister.

Dear Dad,

Unlike those kids who complain everyday about not knowing their father or how their father gets drunk and beats them and their mother daily.. We wanted to say that even though you put a roof over our heads, food on our table, and care enough to see that we blossom into lovely, caring smart girls that do well in school. Yeah we’re kind of upset that you won’t let us have boyfriends or stay out late after curfew, and even telling us we have to wait until we’re “responsible” enough for each of us to have an iPod touch. Despite all that we know you still love us..We love you too..Sometimes.
