I was the oldest child in my family. My parents took all kinds of baby pictures of me. When my sister (the middle child) came along, they were busy and took very few of her, if any at all. In a fit of young child jealousy, my sister took one of my baby pictures and tore it down the middle! My parents repaired the picture with tape and kept it. It was a constant reminder of sibling rivalry!

I started talking at 8 months (unusually early), but didn't walk until 16 months (quite a bit later than most babies). My brother was just the reverse -- he started talking late and walking early. For a while, my mom thought there was something physically wrong with me and mentally wrong with him. So much for that -- we both ended up in the gifted class at school, and we're both pretty good distance runners! There's a pretty big range for what's normal in a baby -- being on the later end for walking/talking/whatever doesn't necessarily mean anything at all. Judging from the kids I know, I think 12.5 months is pretty standard for a kid to start walking.

I'm 25 and the younger of 2 children. When I was 16, I found an album still in the store shrink wrap and asked my mother what it was; her response: "Your baby book."
This was right next to an entire roll of photos my older sister as a baby, sitting on a quilt and not moving.

Bullshit! How is she going to show up the other Moms at playdates, then? Get with the program Tipping! It's all about what the other Mommies think about how you are raising your kids, not about actually raising your kids.

Dissipatedfog is right. I had twins and one walked at 13 months and one walked at 16 months. The 3 months with one walker and one non walker were kinda hard. The walker wanted to run around at the playground but I still had a very heavy crawler. He would try to chase after his brother with his bizarre worm crawl and other mothers laughed at him. I can't blame them. I laughed at him too, because it did look funny. He's fine now but at the time I was freaking out over wanting him to walk already!

LOL I wish this was just a joke. My uncle tried to bash in his baby brother's head with a hammer when he was about 5. He knew what he was doing too. He wanted to kill him. His mother caught him as he had the hammer raised. He still hates his baby brother and is super jealous of him to this day. That is why pediatricians advise not leaving younger siblings alone with older siblings.

Yeah I fail at this part of mothering. My twin boys baby books did not get filled out. At all. Too busy and I am too lazy. I for the most part remember everything right now, but I probably should write it all down before I forget. Matter of fact, I don't think I even know where the darn baby books are. Whoops!
