When I was pregnant with my daughter she would moved around non stop if the Beatles were playing ..she is now almost 9 and still loves them. She shushes me while wating Yellow Submarie (though apparently it is just fine for her to sing Lucy in the Sky with DIamonds at the top of her lungs) and has been arguing Bealt lyrics with her 60 year old Beatle-maniac great-uncle for years….

She was also the only 3 year old probably in 3 states that like to listen to Blind Faith on vinyl with the giant headphones..

I’m more curious if her father is cool enough to have introduced her to the Beatles’ biggest inspiration, Buddy Holly & The Crickets.

I also wonder if Paul McCartney still owns all the copy rights to all of Buddy Holly’s songs.

well sometimes at that age girls are infatuated with their dads n are “in love with them” i remember everyday i would wait anxiously fro my dad come from work so he would help me with my homework n then we could play it was the happiest moment of my day, same as today but now i wait for my boyfriend haha n i get very excited lol

Absolutely! With this little girl in particular, she has her own mind made up about what’s good and what sucks. Completely. I tell her that the early Beatles stuff is mindless tripe, and she should be listening to Sergeant Pepper, Rubber Soul, Revolver, etc…she pays me no heed at all. That being said, she’s just as likely to want to hear “I Want to Hold Your Hand” as “I Me Mine”. She’s working on Ph.D. in Beatles obscura at age 8. Give me hope, help me cope…

Excellent point…the thing is, she’s very clear that she only likes the young George Harrison. She has no love the shaggy hippie latter day George.

Also, for those of you who wonder if she knows he’s dead…she is very aware of that, and is very sad that she’ll never get to see 1/2 of the members of her favorite band ever. But, being the excellent father that I am — when I first saw this note, my response to her was “So, you’d prefer a dead Ex-Beatle to me? Warms my heart.”

I loved the Stones growing up, but didn’t get a thing for Keith til I saw them in concert in high school – old as the hills, cigarette danglin’ out of his mouth through the whole (outdoor and rain-soaked) concert (how he kept it lit is beyond me) and I fell head over heels in love. Weirdest crush ever.

My stepdad made sure my sister and I liked ‘em! I’ve been listening to the Stones since he got together with my mom when I was 7. Got a huge appreciation for them, saw them live in ’06 when I was 17… my friends and I roadtripped, it was so excellent.
