At least it wasn’t running AND screaming. I had a lovely female neighbor who would have her boyfreind chase her around their aparment in the middle of the night, while she would run around screaming. Then, they would start tossing furniture, and she would start screaming “No! No!”
That was a cop calling situation. But I never did…
Instead, the one time I went up there, and said “Keep it down,”
She hollerd back “Get a F___ing life!” Then she dumped my plant out on the front porch the next day. Again my landlord told me I was an over-reacting nosey fruit cake and threatened to kick me out.
Fortunately though I’m pretty sure it was nothing but fun for them, no real danger.

Loud walkers are some of the worst neighbours. If you live in an old, shitty apartment building you have to learn to walk softly and not slam your heels down on the floor. I suffered under one, plus the bitch had a CAST. I can sleep through music, I can’t sleep through thunderfeet. I moved out shortly after she moved in.

We’ve had people living above us who walk so lightly you barely know they’re there and we’ve had people living above us (same apartment) who stomp about like a herd of elephants. Stomping is annoying. I will not live in another apartment with somebody upstairs.

You are forgetting that while a deplex only has 1 shared wall to soundproof an apartment may have 8 (or possibly even 9). That is considerably more expensive.

Not ALL apartments suck. The one I currently live in has 16″ concrete floors and 12″ walls. The only noises we hear are literally things being dropped on the floor. (cans, bowling balls, toddlers etc.)

Being considerate shouldn’t be so hard. When Boyfriend and I moved into our first apartment we spoke to our adjoining neighbours early on about letting us know if we were too noisy and whether they’d heard anything so far. Boyfriend likes his music loud, and we’d definitely had some bed squeaking in the first week, but we were lucky to be in a fairly soundproof building.

And if her neighbours all work day shifts, don’t have kids, and nobody’s home during the afternoon (which is when she said she did it, not during the night, if you read her post), should she still not be allowed to play music?

I find that a ridiculous idea. If the one hour of music a week bothered her neighbours, wouldn’t they have complained?

Also, I don’t have a car either. Not everyone does. Ask New Yorkers how many of them have cars.

I hope she’s in contact with her homeowner’s association or a lawyer. As you said, they were *required* to do that. They didn’t and should have to deal with the repercussions (pulling up the floors and adding the sound deadening layer). I would hope she’s not just complaining about it and not actually doing anything about the problem.

That’s crap. I wear earplugs every night (my husband snores) and I have never once slept through an alarm. The guy should have worn them. Sounds like he was an entitled prick.

Or at the very least he could have moved his bed so it wasn’t against your wall.
