Good intentions? Also, “messy” is in the eye of the roommate. “Messy” might be “only vacuumed weekly” for a particularly OCD roomie. On the other hand, “messy” might mean “bought a vacuum, never cleaned enough off the floor to use it”.

I interpreted this not as an end-of-roommate situation, but as an end-of-relationship situation. The live-in girlfriend/boyfriend moved out, and s/he left a mess as well as some junk behind.

In this situation, there would likely be an alert like “I’ll be stopping by to get the rest of my stuff tomorrow.” Probably sent via text or email, so the still-in-residence ex knew when the stuff would be picked up.

I don’t get it … if they already moved out and left crap behind, doesn’t that mean that they’re not coming back for it?

I got left with all kinds of stuff by my ex rommies because I was the last to move out. Some of it was good, some of it was bad. We were all messy and moving day was HELL.

Also, as someone who is genuinely messy, this isn’t the kind of pile you would see from someone who was messy. Only one box and a flowerpot? Yeah, not that big a deal.

If submitter was the recepient of the note and thus the box, they probably picked it up.
