So.. yeah. There's a ton of reasons why you would need a psych consult, actually. And having been in those situations, no, psychiatry is just as important as every other specialty and they need to be just as well-rested. You're dealing with suicidal and self-destructive people, you need to make a call on whether to admit or discharge them. If you screw up someone's medication you can make them very sick or potentially kill them. And that's before we even consider options like restraints and ECT.
