Garage sales are definitely depending on the owners and the situation. If everything is already bought already by noon, then definitely it’s time to pack. It’s not like a store that would be open for a specific time with or without customers.

Yard sales in Florida — start at 6am (no matter what time you put in the ad), and end by 11am. All the “good stuff” is gone by 8am. Drop off the rejects at Salvation Army on your way to lunch w/the proceeds. Oh, and November through March, only.

kathlynn, being Canadian has nothing to do with anything. I’m a Canadian too, and when I’ve had a yard sale and I feel it’s done for the day, I close up shop without putting out any signage. When I go yard-saling and find that someone has closed up shop “early”, I shrug and get on with my day. It’s not like the people holding a garage sale OWE you anything. It’s not an emergency room, for goodness sake! It’s a freakin’ yard sale.

I live in a place with climate extremes. We have maybe a month of fall and a month of spring. The rest is winter or summer.

I do not have tall trees in my front yard, nor do I have a garage. I purchased the house three years ago, and I do not yet have a nice, shady spot to sit in. There is no chance in Hell I’m going to sit outside past 1:00. The hottest part of the day around here is between 2:00 – 3:00. I’ve had a few garage sales (neighborhood has a big one), and they’re complete misery. I am fortunate in that anything worth a damn sells before 1:00, so I can quickly close up shop and sit in front of the air conditioner. I have kept garage sales open later, and no one comes past 12:00. Again, misery in the summer. No one wants to walk from door-to-door when it’s 90 degrees out.

Yeah, my days are so easy when I work 6-9, then 10-12 at my other job, then 3-8 at the first job. It’s a breeze

Could be cultural but people in the South are usually pretty polite (I’m a transplant if you are wondering about me ) One could do the sign of course, but my one loathsome experience with host such a sale was 90% of customers were gone by noon & all I wanted to do was go inside and lay on an AC vent. Must admit others were not top priority.
