My preference is "over," so when I get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, I have to merely reach over and bat at the roll to get TP. No wondering which direction it'll be.

In a household with kittens, "under" is the only acceptable way. b ut only after the kittens have had some fun with "over" a couple of times.

In my home, the men change the rolls and the women do not. However, we always have an extra roll within reach, so no one is caught with their pants down and empty handed.

...that didn't read quite like I wanted it to...

It disappears faster because there's someone at work that grabs the free roll and takes it home.

Either that, or they just use the roll in its entirety to wipe their ass.

The person who refuses to change the toilet paper roll is just refusing to get into the war about which way the toilet paper should face: in or out?

I've found that the "under" placement helps prevent kittens from unrolling and demolishing the TP, but YMMV. :)

This can depend on how the roll holder is set up.

Before I re-did my bathroom I had one of the ones where it was recessed into the wall. The problem is that most TP manufacturers have been making their cardboard tubes bigger than they used to (less paper per roll but it doesn't look smaller). So when I'd put a new roll on the spring-loaded bar it would sit on the bottom of the opening rather than hang from the bar.

If I put the roll in with the paper over the top and then pulled on it, the roll would roll forward a bit and stop, causing a single square to come off. You'd either have to keep taking a square at a time or use your other hand to turn the roll. Once you took enough paper off it hung normally and the problem went away.

But if you put the roll in so the paper came out the bottom, there was no problem pulling it out from under. So I did that to avoid the aggravation.

If Nathalie always change the rolls and never complain about those who are to lazy to do it nothing will change.

Over - because the manufacturer wants you to see the pretty embossing.

(seriously-do squeeze the Charmin-so the roll is slightly oval and no longer round - it will solve that "too much rolling off" problem)

Different people have different peeves. Natalie's is replacing the toilet paper, mine is when people bitch about the incredibly trivial. I'll stop while I'm ahead, though, since I don't want to become my own pet peeve.

Also, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned yet that neither person was willing to put in the effort to remove the wrapper from the second roll. "But it'll protect it from the fecal mist!" my ass. They just didn't feel like it. Hypocrisy in a PA note is a beautiful thing.
