The couple across from us plays Xbox. His favorite word is fuck and when he watches sports its like he is there, at the game, He makes sure to yell at the top of his lungs and his clapping is backed by maximum sonic capabilities. He has his significant other now also yelling out fuck after he does so its now double the idiocy.

The family down the way…what can I say. Their favorite phrase is Pick up that fucking chicken! Ive heard it like 20x. I live in a very nice apartment area and never thought this place would turn into the shitpile its developed into.

Kinda sucks living your days with your windows closed while the idiots blast their single digit IQ into the surrounding areas loud and clear for all to hear. sign…back to cooking

I mostly don’t give a shit about if they’re just overly picky about tiny miniscule noises and I’m painting you in a bad light, because when you say “the spoiled little brats above us think they’re needs are more important” you’ve essentially just said “MY needs are more important than theirs”

Basically I’m calling you a self-centered asshole. Maybe try thinking that your needs and their needs are equal for a change and that you’re not better than everyone else.

But guess what? My wife (wait for it) is a shift worker who often doesn’t get home until 9:20.

Now you think we’re going to become celibate, not cook dinner, washes dishes, wash clothes, watch any tv, etc. etc. Because the spoiled little brats above us think they’re needs are more important?

Nope. Fuck that. I have a right to live my life, and they can just fucking move to a free standing house/condo if they don’t like it.

Also, I’m not sure where sleeping in is a “luxury” in the adult world. I sleep in every day I don’t work (somewhere between 11 and 12), and even when I do have work I don’t have to be up until 8:45. I know tons of other people just like me. I mean, I’m an adult. I can do whatever the fuck I want as long as I pay the bills, and I choose sleeping in all the time – certainly a given for me. I definitely don’t expect people to shut up until noon for me, but I do expect people to be reasonable. The people in the note can safely be assumed as noisy assholes, at all hours. So let’s just all shut up and sit down about who gets the “privilege” of sleeping in. We all deserve a reasonable level of noise, 24 hours a day, no matter if we choose lifestyles that let us sleep in or lifestyles that have us out of bed at 5am every day.

The note is cute, and if the neighbors are really standing by the window and screaming FUCK, I get why the note writer wants it to stop. There’s no need for that.

But folks lose me when their argument is “but I want to sleep iiiiiiinnnnnn!” Yeah, and? Who doesn’t? This is the grownup world, where sleeping in is a luxury and not a given. Welcome, and enjoy your stay!

I know several people here have argued, “but but shift workers!” First of all, I don’t think the note writer is a shift worker, because s/he specifically says this is about “sleeping in,” not “sleeping during the day because I work all night.” And even if s/he is a shift worker, I’ve been there before myself, and pretty much considered it my own responsibility to deal with noise and light during the day. Earplugs, blackout curtains, whatever it took – it was a pain, but I didn’t expect the daytime to stop for me since that’s when most of the world is up and about. Not their fault I worked odd hours. And 8am is most definitely daytime.

I sleep late/early, though, so I just told him after the first week I moved in that he needed to turn it down after midnight. You could hear him swearing up a storm (he was apparently terrible at his games), talking VERY loudly with his friends (conversational yelling is probably more appropriate), or the explosions from his movie/game if you were in the living room, but after midnight, he turned it down low enough that you couldn’t hear it in the bedroom.

I felt that he was lucky to have me, though. If someone who doesn’t want to hear “F**K!” thirty times a night moved in after me, he’s probably in trouble.

Sigh.

I used to live in the second house on the block and had neighbors who were the third or fourth house AROUND the corner constantly wake up my roommates and me with screaming children in their backyard. Including my roommate who had other rooms as a buffer for three of her walls and her only exterior wall faced the opposite direction towards the highway. I lived there for 3 years and these kids “played ” (screamed) most of the time from 7am to noon or even later Monday through Saturday. One weekday morning, I was woken up before 7am and laid in bed furious for probably 45 minutes, until I decided to storm over there and give them a piece of my mind.

As I approached the house in my pj’s and crazy hair, I could hear they even had music blaring. The mom answered the door and when I asked if she was “the one with the screaming kids,” she claimed she just told them to keep it down. Obviously it wasn’t working, because they were STILL screaming. I rambled on about how it was way too early (anything before 8am, especially) for incessant screaming and how that much screaming was unnecessary. I’ve worked with kids from babies to teens for ten years, mostly with preschoolers and have NEVER experienced such noise. She and her husband behind her just kinda stared at me with blank looks. The mother said they have school and this was there only time to be outside and play. Fine, but screaming 6 days a week? According to one of my roommates, the dad even ran around and screamed along with the kids; great family bonding time: let’s wake up the entire neighborhood together!

I’m so glad I don’t live there anymore, because I could still hear them for months after this incident until I left (for unrelated reasons).
