Hi I am the son of the man in this note. I just wanted to clarify. The old woman the neighbor was talking about was my grandma. When my grandmother died my dad reluctantly took over taking care of the cat but would not let the cat in the house. The witness he discussed is my aunt. Also yes he wrote the response on the back of the note from the neighbor with the hopes that she would read it but more than likely she didn't. Honestly my dad died a year ago and the cat is still alive so the cat has outlived two owners.

I started using containers with lids for my nightly hydration for the same reason: would wake up to find the lazy, furry freeloader using his clean- everything tongue to drink from my conveniently wide-mouthed tumbler. His waterdish, you see, was a whole ten feet farther away...

Start putting food and water out for one, soon you're putting food and water out for ten, and then they start to breed, and before you know it, your neighbors are leaving passive aggressive notes on your porch about cat shit on their lawn and murdered wildlife on the welcome mat. Leaving anything out for feral cats is a BAD idea...

I have one cat who drinks water so often I suspect he is steam-powered, and one that turns up her pretty little nose at it no matter what the source. Go figure.

My cat likes to get a drink from the tub. While I'm in it. Her predecessor did the same thing.

I keep a water bowl down for her, and she gets some canned food each day. I'm going to assume that if she needed more water, she'd visit that bowl more. Since she seems healthy and content, seems a safe bet. ;)

If it was like many cats I know/see it is probably drinking out of a swimming pool or the saucer of a potted plant. Even my indoor cats insist on drinking from sink, bathtub or potted plant over ar "nice and clean" bowl near their food. (I don't even bother anymore - just keep the spare bathroom sink full).
