I have lived in Ypsilanti for twenty years. Like any city, it has its good neighborhoods, and its not so good neighborhoods. We have a beautiful historic district with a huge variety of architectural styles: Italianate, Queen Anne, Federal, Second Empire. We have lovely family neighborhoods with parks, with beautiful avenues and landscaping. Many of the homes are showplaces. 200K might not at all be unreasonable depending on the neighborhood. We also have college neighborhoods, with lots of hipsters.

Yes, this is a culturally and economically diverse town. That doesn't make it a bad place to live. I love that Ypsi is not at all homogenous or white bread. But then black people don't scare me.

I love all the locally run businesses here, the farmer's market, the independent coffeehouses, the bars and restaurants like Sidetrack and Beezy's, the food co op, the places to hear live music. Have you heard of Mittenfest? Annual show with tons of bands to raise money for 826 Michigan. Takes place in Ypsi.

I don't know any yokels, unless you are talking about the urban farmers who are growing and selling their crops at the farmer's market. Or maybe you are talking about Growing Hope: community gardens and helping low income people grown their own food. Or maybe you are talking about Peter Thomason who helped to get chickens in our city? Or are you talking about the myriad of crafters who knit, sew, paint, draw, work wood and metal who sell their wares at the Shadow Art Fair? Are these the backwoods yokels you are speaking of?

Instead of judging my town from secondhand stories and rumors created by upper class rich people who think that seeing a black man on the street means you are in a bad neighborhood, why not actually come visit Ypsilanti yourself.

This guy can suck it.

We just bought our house in Ypsi a couple of years ago. I moved back here from Ann Arbor after 30 years - I'd rather live here than A2, Saline, Milan, Chelsea or Dexter any day.

Also, the rep isn't for being dumb or inbred - that's for the more rural communities nearby. Ypsi's rep is for being poor & crime-ridden.

I grew up part time in Ypsi (not inbred, just very poor) and cannot imagine a home for 200k anywhere near where I lived. Maybe a few of the new ones on Denton, but childhood ghost stories have scarred me for life so I wouldn't live in a mansion for $25 on that road, haha.

Although the stuff you cut off belongs to your neighbour. So technically you have to give it to him (I'm sure he'd be thrilled...)

I think it depends on the dog's diet. My dog's pee didn't do anything bad to my yard, but other people's will have "burn" spots on their yard from the dog pee.

We actually have no trees at all in our yard, just a line of trees right on the neighbor's side of the property line that drop leaves all over our yard and completely shade our pool. He won't cut or trim them, and we're not allowed to. It's frustrating :(

@KD, that would have to be a whole lot. You don't see people who own dogs having trouble with their lawns dying because they get peed on daily, do you? (I mean maybe you do but I've never heard of that)
