I'm impressed, does not look like anyone here, know that when a dog pisses on the lawn, then why the grass looks dead out, that there is so much fertilizer to pee, that grass is "burned" by over fertilization.

Same here. Our neighborhood is packed with dogs and I don't see any burn spots on anyone else's lawn around here. I would guess that this guy either has sensitive grass or over fertilizes making the added nitrogen from dog pee put the burn on the grass. I have read that unspayed female dog urine is the worst, so perhaps it's just that neither of our neighborhoods have one of those.

It's the nitrogen in the urine, not the acid. The funny thing is a little piss will actually help the lawn grow because nitrogen is a key component in fertilizers. Quick release fertilizers utilize a lot of it usually in liquid form. Too much nitrogen burns the lawn, though. Maybe that is why some people are referring to how much fertilizer this guy uses.

BTW, dog owners, there is a supplement you can give your dog that supposedly neutralizes the nitrogen in your dogs urine. I don't know the efficacy of it. My dog doesn't seem to have enough nitrogen in his urine to ruin our lawn and he pees on it on the regular.

I have to say, I've had two dogs over the past 18 years, male and female (though both were spayed/neutered) who peed on our lawn, and around the neighbourhood (in a neighbourhood where there are a lot of dogs) and I have to say that I have never had a problem with burn spots, on my lawn or any of the neighbours. (with the exception of the neighbours who cut their lawns too short during heatwaves which burns huge patches). Maybe the grass up in Canada is just hardier, or it rains more, but I think there's got to be more at play here than just dog urine.

Still, my dogs are only allowed to do their business on the tiny strip between the road and the sidewalk anyway. Letting a animals wander all across someone's lawn is rather rude.

Leaves benefit your lawn only if they're mulched. As complete, intact leaves, they actually do more harm than good -- they hold moisture and allow mold and other icky stuff to grow. so if you're not going to rake, you at least need to mow over the leaves to break them up so they can start to break down and add nutrients to the soil.

I don't think the signs are rude. I think it's alot more rude for a dog to pee on someone's lawn besides their owners.

PetPoisonHelpline dot com says no. It's toxic if they forcefully ingest a lot of them, but if it eats a tomato on its own, nothing bad will happen.

Tomatoes are acidic, and I agree that it doesn't make sense to feed them tomato juice if you want to decrease the acid in their urine. It's just how their body chemistry is and I don't think you can do anything to change it.

First of all
*peek

Second of all, yes, if somebody felt the need to post 4 signs around their yard in order to inform the neighborhood of their lawn damage, I would be tempted to glance at the yard directly behind the sign out of curiosity.

Wish I could afford to own and care for a snake, actually. And kermit, I half agree with you--keeping a *poisonous* animal..whether it be snake, scorpion, spider, or something else is a *very* poor idea. As for strangling...part of the reason I suggested the hognose, because it's pretty small (grass-snakes and the like are even less threatening, and eat insects, but that small diameter also means that they're *quick* little buggers that can slide out of your hands and go exploring your house before you can blink.) The reason I know about snakes being nice pets is due to someone I used to know who owned quite a few snakes--including a rather young boa (only about a half-inch diameter)...and a couple of Burmese pythons as big around as my leg who ate *rabbits*. *Those* were pretty obviously a potential problem if they decided to get playful, especially if someone carries them in a way that makes it easy *to* wrap around your neck in the first place.
As for telling if they're happy...snakes don't need a lot of emotional attention and interaction like cats and dogs do. If you're making like a warm, slightly squishy tree and not being a hazard to them, they're happy. :-)
