Shortly therafter, before I had gotten around to replacing the bulbs, I read an article about how light with a red tone helps ease one to sleep as opposed to light with a blue tone (like from a computer screen). Plus the red light allowed enough light to read by without flooding the whole room with light. So we kept them, and years later our bedside lights have red bulbs.

We tried black bulbs – didn’t have the same effect (blue tone) and was too dim to read by.

The downside is that every time I take off my clothes to get in bed and flip on the red light, my husband cracks a joke or sings “Roxanne”.
