Not everybody who has money actually deserves it. I would be tearfully happy to hear of you ending up like so many people who work hard their entire lives and end up with so little, and then even that is taken away from them for one reason or another.
If you really were sad and poor at some point, it’s a shame that your success has clouded your vision of reality and turned you into another egotistical moneybag who thinks they have all the answers to life. Why don’t you write one of those “Secrets to Success” books so that you can take advantage of those less fortunate than yourself by feeding them bullshit.

I worked for a while at a gas station at night, in a pretty high income area of town. I had a new baby and did not want to leave her in daycare, so did that at night while she stayed with my husband . I have two Associate degrees.
Someone actually brought their son into the store, pointed at me, and said ” This is where you end up, when you do not go to college.” Wow. I guess college does not teach you any kind of respect for fellow human beings.

I only read the part about me. Girl, you need to learn to use the return key.

The only place dad might be able to get a job is in Texas. He specializes in making fuels more environmentally sound and the laws aren’t as strict there as they are in California, so fuel companies do better there.

But there’s no way he and mom would move to Texas. And even then it’s not a sure shot that he could get a job there because, once again, people with bachelors degrees can be paid way less than PhDs like dad. So they’re more desirable.

For the record, a technical degree doesn’t get you any further than a high school diploma and a little bit of intelligence, and really isn’t worth the the cost.

sockpuppet-I am aware not everyone “even has ability to obtain ‘very demanding degrees’”. That’s why I mentioned technical training. Rattus- “Lower echelon workers” is your expression, not mine. I don’t disrepect them. I’m saying that people who have jobs that they hate should do something about it. You would miss the jobs that my husband and I do, you would, really. Mil- Spend some time studying “The Occupational Outlook Handbook”. One can certainly improve the odds of being employable for a very long time. Matty-Wat- “demanding – task: difficult, challenging” Check out a great book known as a “dictionary”. Some words have more than one meaning. It’s quite magical. TheElf- I too had my share of crappy jobs before improving my situation. I wasn’t completely supported while I did that. I worked and took out loans, which I re-paid on time, with interest. I am kind in my dealings with workers. I had several unpleasant jobs in retail. That’s why I gave up eating out, cable tv, new clothes, new cars and a social life for a few years so I could get a better job. Jami- Getting advanced training (college or technical) doesn’t fix everything, nor does money buy happiness, but life is much easier if you like your job and you have disposable income, really it is. Omnivore- My English grammar and spelling skills (please forgive the occasional typo) are far superior to those of most Nigerians and I’m not asking you for any money. I’m encouraging you to work towards earning some of your own. AP- Sorry to hear things haven’t worked out for you. Don’t give up, however it’s not the duty of comapnies “to care”. Actually I see it as just the opposite. Clearly nobody took any time thinking about how to write the memo. (And I’d be suprised if a “Service Ambassador” could actually be defined as management. It sounds like a made up title to push more work onto someone without giving them a raise.)

If management truly spent any time on this kind of thing, they’d come up with some plan better than “Do your damned job or do without it.” As someone said before this reads like “The beatings will continue until morale improves.”

I can’t speak for Nope, but customer service people that are cheery and smiley all the time kinda creep me out. Everybody has bad days, and I don’t think people should be forced to smile all the damn time like they’re a Stepford wife.

Besides, unless you’re really good at faking it, artificial cheer can come across as really patronizing and condescending.

Ladies and gentlemen, I think we found a way to make it so no one ever gets upset over a PAN again.

From now on, every PAN must contain a picture of Rufus Sewell!

Someone who’s good at photoshop get on that. Maybe if we’re lucky we can have one that’s good enough it’ll cross over from PAN into Winning At Everything. (Lord knows I’ve seen some comments on PAN that, while WAE tends to be more about losers than winners when you get to the heart of the matter, are awesome enough they should be posted over there for all to love and admire.)
