“Then we are at an impasse”
I won’t love you til your room is clean.

I think it’s amazing that even as an adult my Mom makes me “clean my room” in that I find the knowing she’s coming over has me cleaning up messes I’d gladly over-looked for who knows how long.

I do the same exact thing! lol

Same here. My mum came to stay at the weekend and I finally cleared away boxes which have been sitting around since I moved in.

If by “cleared away” you mean “hid somewhere she won’t look”, then I completely agree.

The bad thing about a weekend stay is that you can’t throw all the dirty dishes in the bathtub, like you can with your basic dinner guest.

Ah, but you can put all those dirty dishes in an out-of-the-way and oft forgotten about cupboard. And if your guest looks in there and finds them, then you can go down the “Well, I might be a slob, but you’re just *rude* route.”

God, tell me about it. Surprise visits are the worst. “Don’t go in the kitchen!! Or in there!…the bathroom is ok tho.”

Surprise visits are awkward. I like to leave out the vacuum cleaner, plugged in, so it at least looks like they may have caught me in the middle of cleaning.

My mom’s house stays incredibly clean, mine is hit or miss. When she catches me on a messy day, she always says, “Girl, it’s okay. You work and have a little one.” Well, my little one is five years old now, but I’ll keep riding that wave as long as she lets me.

Meh… my house is cleaner on its messiest day than my mom’s house on its cleanest day.
