christine in san rafael, california says sol food is “literally the best thing about san rafael.” one reason? the restaurant “keeps this gem of a note right where it belongs — on display in the glass cabinet outside the front door, where most restaurants would keep a menu.”
seeing as the note has been up for about a year and half so far, it seems angelo’s threat hasn’t caused much concern. in fact, christine says, “the place is so popular that it always has a line out the door, which (bonus!) allows me to read it over and over again.”
(see the lime-green exterior for yourself here and here.)

Angelo must be either colorblind or new to Marin. That color fits right in with the general California-theme-park/I drive a pickup but I eat authentic Thai food at my roadhouse bar/national historic register of buildings less than 5o years old/etc. spirit of the area.

Dear Angelo,
Thank you for your kind words! Perhaps you and your small-minded, ethno-centric friends should try the hip new restaurant, Beigey McBeigersons, just down the street. You may find it more to your liking.
Sincerely,
San Rafael

There is an apartment community in Los Angeles on Wilshire Blvd that is painted baby poo yellow/green. They still manage to rent pretty well…

Dear Angelo,
The lime-green served its purpose. It grabbed your attention so I could grab your olive-drab money.

Good lord, how tasteless to leave such a note. I don’t know if it is racist or xenophobic. This person doesn’t get out much. Depending on what city you go to in the world, some places like bright colors. I lived in Iceland for a year and the houses were all painted really bright colors that contrasted nicely with the stark volcanic landscape.

Let’s hope Angelo doesn’t return to retrieve the note when it dawns on him that he’s sided more patronizers with the restaurant than he has friends to encourage not to!
