Vaguely hostile hostel

September 6th, 2007 · 138 Comments

Frequent troublemaker Team Cassandra sends us a dispatch from her trip to old Montreal. The charmant hostel she stayed in had 32 hostelers, two bathrooms, one kitchen, lots of awkward signage, and an overall vibe of, “I’ve said this 10, 000 times and I’m not saying it again.”

ATTENTION ALL WHO AIM TO BOOZE IT UP TONIGHT: Drunks please go elsewhere to party (Montreal has a vast array of clubs and bars: pick one!) because people are trying to sleep after 11 pm. PS Put your empty beer bottles/cans in the recycling.

Thank you for NOT switching dorm beds :)

THANK YOU FOR KEEPING THE WASHROOM TIDY & NEAT!

S.V.P. Veuillez enlever vos chaussures avant de monter. Merci

GARDEZ CETTE PORTE FERMEE - KEEP THIS DOOR CLOSED/ SOYEZ LES BIENVENUS! BE WELCOME!

…and pull up your pants!

July 23rd, 2007 · 97 Comments

Bill snapped this photo at a liquor store in middle-of-nowhere Tennessee, 40 miles east of Memphis. Like this one and this one, it’s more crazy than passive-aggressive — but too good to pass up.

and pull up your pants

Adds Bill: “From what the friend I was visiting told me, the store aired religious TV every hour it was open.  Except on Sundays, that is… because that’s when they turned on NASCAR. IT also had the widest array of bum wines (MD 20/20, Wild Irish Rose, etc.) that I have ever seen.”

Cubicle etiquette

This series of signs (all made by one person, and pinned up across an entire bulletin board) is among my all-time favorites. The glorious redundancies, the inappropriate quotation marks, the clip art — oh, it’s just too good.

The Post-it Wars

June 4th, 2007 · 23 Comments

After receiving numerous “helpful tips” from her roommate at the University of Minnesota…

Tips for keeping counters clean!

TIP: If you use the sponge, squeeze it out and put it on the side of the sink. It will last longer and not get stinky! Thanks

DISH ETIQUETTE: 1) Please soak pots & pans IMMEDIATELY after use. 2) Put dishes in dishwasher right after washing them out. 3) Place cleaned cookware on a towel next to the sink. 4) Rinse dishes right after use. 5) Be considerate!

…Lydia decided to add a few “tips” of her own. (The large signs on the oven and the microwave were already there.)
