The Catalan Tourist Board: Guerrilla division

March 22nd, 2012 · 108 Comments

Eerac and I are literally in the process of booking a holiday rental apartment in Barcelona for an upcoming vacation with our respective partners. Today, this photo showed up a the top of the PAN inbox. Matt from the U.K. says he spotted it hanging from a window in — of course — Barcelona.

WELCOME TOURIST, THE RENT OF HOLIDAY APARTMENTS IN THIS NEIGHBOURHOOD DESTROYS THE LOCAL SOCIO-CULTURAL FABRIC AND PROMOTES SPECULATION. MANY LOCAL RESIDENTS ARE FORCED TO MOVE OUT. ENJOY YOUR STAY.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in Barcelona…

But where is the dental clinic?

August 25th, 2011 · 44 Comments

Patti in Madrid, Spain couldn’t help but laugh when she saw this notice. “I kept imagining all the losers buzzing random apartments, asking, ‘Hey, is this the dental clinic?’” — presumably, until one of the frustrated residents posted this sign.

La clínica dental es en el botón que pone "Clínica Dental." ¡¡Gracias!! (Translation: The dental clinic is at the button that says "dental clinic." Thank you!)

Just doing their part to uphold the reputation of Americans abroad

September 2nd, 2008 · 119 Comments

Edward says this sign was posted on every floor and inside all the elevators at the hotel that headquartered UCLA’s study abroad program in Granada, Spain last semester.

UCLA STUDENTS: Do not smear cheese on the hotel's door. Otherwise we will have to pay the extra cleaning costs to the hotel (approximately 30 EUROS for last night's episode!!!!!!) If you plan to celebrate end of classes tonight, do it quietly or else do it outside the hotel. Last night other guests complained about UCLA's noise!!!!

Can you blame them? I mean, really — what a waste of perfectly good manchego!

No, you can’t  — at least not near the copy machine at Erin’s office in Indianapolis.

Please use the sticky finger & not saliva

Meanwhile, Alvaro’s office in Madrid is having licking issues of its own near the office coffee machine. (Translation: “Please do not lick this teaspoon/ it’s for collective use.”)

Please do not lick this teaspoon; it's for collective use

And the licking doesn’t stop there…
