Friends don’t lie 2 friends

April 23rd, 2009 · 220 Comments

I’ll admit, my first thought upon reading this note — found in the hallways of an American high school — was something along the lines of “Argh, kids today, with their chatspeak!” Can we all agree that adolescent girls are probably the most passive-aggressive creatures on earth?

Snaps for schadenfreude!

March 16th, 2009 · 98 Comments

Facebook‘s new “I like this” feature doesn’t allow you to give “thumbs down” to your friends’ status updates or posted links — a boon to both the supportive, snap-cup-loving, kindergarten-teacher-types on your friends list and the die-hard passive-aggressives on your frenemies list!

Daniel fractured his arm in 3 places.

The even bigger “ouch”?

ouch.

See, kids: this is what happens when you live in the awkward part of the Venn diagram where “Facebook friends” and “real friends” don’t overlap.

hmm must have missed that invite...weird...

Glad you can change your facebook status but not call me back

A trivial mistake

February 11th, 2009 · 46 Comments

Cate and her brother play trivia at a bar in Seattle once or twice a month, and Cate’s brother usually invites Shelby, a friend from college. Last week, he “forgot” to invite her, but — AWKWARD! — she was at the bar that night anyway.

“Shelby wrote this little gem on a napkin and had someone deliver it to our table,” Cate says. “I’m leaving it up to my brother to decide if this earns her an invite to our next game.”

Sam - I know you are here & didn't invite me. Jerk. -Shelby

Our anonymous submitter in Brooklyn received this e-mail from his 28-year-old male roommate after purchasing a similar (not identical) blue toggle pea coat. “We are rarely out of the apartment together,” our submitter notes. Hmm, wonder why?

Hey, so i wanna get something off my chest. I know it's a little silly, but it really bugs me that you bought the same coat as I did. for some reason it's really gotten under my skin and it's probably made me a bit of a jerk over the past few days. you mentioned that it's the same as those shoes - but i don't really see it that way. i asked you before i bought those shoes. first. and second, they were work shoes. there was very little chance of us wearing them at the same time. i'll take back the coat, which, to be honest, sort of upsets me, but i guess i'll have to get over it. so, anyway, i guess i just wanted to say that...before i got any meaner.

Facebook: the ultimate nostalgia-killer

January 9th, 2009 · 147 Comments

Writes Liz in Dublin: “I’m submitting a message I received via Facebook to show that while Facebook is a great place to reconnect with old friends, it is an even better place to reopen decade-old wounds of teenage angst.”

Explains Liz: “The e-mailer and I never spoke in high school, and I thought it was odd that she added me as a friend on Facebook in the first place. In the spirit of being nice, I added her back, kept her on for few days (I figured she just wanted to see my pictures) and then removed her. That was about two months ago, so it’s interesting that she’s bringing it up now.”

Not that I'm super offended or anything...

Meanwhile, Michael in Lexington, Kentucky received a similarly out-of-the-blue message from an old high school “friend” he hadn’t heard from in about ten years. “To be honest,” says Michael, “I’m not sure what ‘ties’ she’s referring to.”

Desperately seeking closure

January 6th, 2009 · 83 Comments

Nate’s sister Heather found this note (written on a bus schedule) outside their house in Los Angeles. “I’d like to think Dan took a bus to surprise Roberto, only to be given the cold shoulder,” Nate says, but we can only speculate about the nature of Dan’s attitude towards the future of this relationship. (Zen? Desperate? Really, really flexible?)

Adds Nate: “I particularly appreciate how he gives Roberto the option to improvise.”

Roberto, if you don't want to let me in that's O.K...But please at least do the same for me as any other friend and look out the window and say

Tant pis, mon amie

November 7th, 2008 · 165 Comments

Writes our anonymous submitter: “Amie and I were friends since junior high. We had plans to go out for my 22nd birthday, but she canceled the day of. I said it was cool and that we should reschedule, and then I never heard from her again…until four years later, when she requested me as a friend on Facebook. I rejected her. She friend-requested me again, and I rejected her…again.”

Amie, however, didn’t seem to get the message.

I heard about your wedding and I just wanted to say congrats and that I was really excited for you, thats all. I don't know why you wont accept the facebook-friend invite.

Adds our submitter: “For the record, my response was, ‘Thanks for the congrats!’”

Facebook: a place for frenemies

September 19th, 2008 · 124 Comments

In this edition of Facebook Friday…an assortment of cat fights in the making, plucked from the newsfeeds of the innocent Facebookers caught in the crossfire!

Exhibit a)

HOW IS IT YOU CALL TO SEE IF A FRIEND WANTS TO CHILL AND YOU GET BLASTED ON OVER SOME BITCH BULL SHIT! THAT MEANS YOUR BULL SHIT JENNY!

Exhibit b)

Wow never thought you could be shit on by the same two people so many times in a month!! Good Riddance & fuck you!!

Exhibit c)

Jordan is beyond pissed at her retarded roommate (but still loves the other two bundles :) )

The smiley face there is a nice touch, but my favorite this time around has to be this doozy of an about-face (read from the bottom up):

Bryn & Brooke

Reason #962 why I’m happy Facebook wasn’t around when I was in high school…

You chose the one formal picture I am not in...are you denying our friendship?
