Mary saw this collection of missives while visiting friends in Long Island City, Queens last spring.
Anthony left a note on the door…
Saving his pennies for someday…
You oughta know by now
Workin’ too hard can give you a heart attackackackackackack
And it seems such a waste of time
You should never argue with a crazy mi-mi-mi-mi-mi-mind
But she’s not movin’ out.

Exhibit a) submitted by an anonymous bystander at a lunch counter in Oregon Caves National Park:
Exhibit b) submitted by Patrick in Kansas City, Missouri, who explains: “My friends Chris and Katie had a rude waitress a few weeks ago. In order to tell the waitress that there was indeed a reason she wasn’t getting a tip, Chris left this little note where the tip would ordinarily go.”
Though I can certainly empathize, as a former food service industry worker I just can’t condone not leaving a tip. (I’m guessing there are a lot of you, however, who’d disagree.)

“Is it doubly passive aggressive to use this site to convey this message? I am the creator of this note, and the photo depicts actual conditions. I would love to send a post of this to said roommate at work.” —flushpatrol in Washington, D.C.

“My co-workers and I were in love with this note when we found it attached to the office refrigerator,” says Brian in Cleveland. “We wanted a copy, but the woman frightened us. So we came up with an elaborate scheme. One co-worker walked to the kitchen carrying a folder. She grabbed the note, stuffed it inside, and walked down the hallway. She handed it to another co-worker and stood watch. That co-worker raced to give it to me, who rapidly made a copy. Then we reversed the sequence. Within two minutes, the note was back on the fridge, and we were in heaven.”
So worth the effort though, right?

The third paragraph of the first e-mail is the brilliant part…though I’m gonna have to side with Michelle’s roommate on this one.
Adds Michelle: “that bread was fucking delicious.”

Says Dave in New York City: “I love that this note contains a fairly detailed explanation of Lord Kelvin’s formulation of the second law of thermodynamics….and a helpful diagram!”

I don’t want to oversell this, but the following series of three signs (sent in by a health-club patron who wishes to remain nameless) just became my new all-time favorite. I love so many things about Richard G. Sells’s first masterpiece (below) that I don’t even know where to begin.
The best part, I think, might be the Freudian slip mid-way through (“…without getting any of the crap in the toilet stool itself.”)
But it doesn’t end there! Read acts 2 and 3.
