Sara is one of seven students sharing an apartment in Venice. After three months of living together, she says, it became clear that one of the flatmates had to go: he had nasty habits like, um, pleasuring himself in his in other people’s bedrooms while they were out.
“We gently told him we thought it was better for everybody if he looked for another house,” Sara says, but he didn’t take the hint. So one of the other roommates decided to leave him this note:
Roughly translated from the Italian, it reads: “It’s time you leave.”

“I still put my stuff all over his couch,” says Ryan in D.C., who adds that this note is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to his “anal-retentive” roommate. Ryan will be moving out of the apartment soon, but (in a final passive-aggressive gesture) says he has stuffed the couch full of candy wrappers for his roommate to find.

“My roommate Ian kept eating all the cereal I bought before I had a chance to have even a single bowl,” Dan says. Apparently the Cap’n decided to take matters into his own hands.
If you can’t read it, the Cap’n is saying: “Ian, If I catch you eating this delicious cereal, I’ll kill you in your sleep. Love, Dan.”

This girl is like the archetypal freshman roommate, no?
From Megan in Charleston, who was not the slob that this note might suggest.

This lovely petri dish courtesy of Ben, who explains: “While living in a house in London with 17 people from all over the world, things become way too green. This had to be done every once in a while in order to remind others not to overpopulate our kitchen with new living organisms.”

In evidence here, a key element of the passive-aggressive lexicon —and one of the many elevated to catchphrase status by Mike Judge.
This example comes from Peter (no, not that Peter), who has since escaped roommate living but offers these words of wisdom for those of us who haven’t: “Never trust anyone who uses post-it notes at home.”
