A (kinda, sorta) friendly letter

June 14th, 2015 · 35 Comments

Our submitter, a teacher in North Carolina, received this from one of her students at the end of this year. I think my favorite part of this letter is the part that got erased — which, as far as I can make out, says, “I thought were kind of nice” and “P.S. I think you were nice sometimes.” Way to dial it back there, Faith.

no credit check loans 3rd grade and I kind of didn’t. Some of the worksheets were pretty hard. If I got to be better and good at math I probably would like 3rd grade more. How I liked you was a four-out of ten. Love, Faith” alt=”Dear Mrs. Benner, I kind of liked 3rd grade and I kind of didn’t. Some of the worksheets were pretty hard. Sure, she failed you, Mrs. B, but she signed it with love!

Hide Green Tomatoes!

September 18th, 2014 · 43 Comments

Emma in Canada spotted this very un-Canadian note today in her neighborhood.

Some asshole ate my ripe tomato - so now I have to eat my tomatoes not ripe to keep the their [sic] from enjoying months of watering + work. Don't steal any more JERK

Meanwhile, Christa in North Carolina apparently takes her ripe tomatoes quite seriously, too.

Steal from our garden again & I'll cut your fucking head off. K thanks bye! XOXO Christa

On Wednesdays we wear pink

June 5th, 2014 · 76 Comments

Our submitter in Chicago found these notes were in her son’s 8th grade autograph book. “Only a few other students are going to the same high school that my son will be attending,” she writes. “These two girls are part of that group and seem eager to get on to the next year of flame-throwing. I thought the heart was a nice, passive-aggressive touch.”

Adds our submitter: “The weird thing is that these girls both appear to be so nice and docile in person.”

I don't really like you much so don't really have much fun in high school. Hope I don't see you at L.P. -Jessie We are both going to L P so I am glad you didn't choose drama. I hope you are different in high school. Then maybe we could be friends. -Ileana

Kiss my carbon footprint!

May 25th, 2014 · 48 Comments

Writes our submitter in Cambridge, UK: “There’s a master’s student living in our shared student house — the kind who lives off hemp protein and lentils. Anyway, the house has an hallway running through the middle, with his room on one side and a landing on the other. This note appeared on the landing the other day. I think it has the perfect combination of smiley faces, violent threats, love and climate change.”

YO DIPSHITS! Turn the light off!!!* 1) It shines straight into my room, and wakes me up. 2) It releases CO2. You're killing us all with climate change for no fucking reason!!! Love and Big kisses! xxx ––– :) *Notes are normally passive aggressive. This one is aggressive-aggressive. Do this again, and I shall cut you :)

Writes Joshua in Salt Lake City: “This past year I’ve been trying to lose weight. It’s been up and down. Apparently my mother knows that.”

Housesitting Dos & Don’ts

September 1st, 2013 · 69 Comments

Writes Mark in the U.K.: “My friend went over to his sister’s place to house sit for a week and when he arrived he was greeted with this. The ‘help yourself to our empty cupboards’ bit is a joy in itself, but having to be told not to try on her housemate’s lingerie is a total gem.”

DO feed the cat. DO change her water. DON'T try on Katie's bras. DON'T write a sarcastic reply to this list.

But…but…I’m a grown-up now!

August 21st, 2013 · 65 Comments

Writes our submitter in Michigan: “My sister-in-law graduated high school recently, and apparently calling to congratulate her — as opposed to driving 1200 miles to attend the ceremony —  was a major slight.” (A slight I’m guessing she’d be willing to graciously overlook in exchange for 50 bucks or so.)

Dear [redacted], Thank you for the card you didn't send me and the text I never got! I also appreciate all the effort you put into trying to come to my party! I LOVE YOU SOOO MUCH Love, Your baby sister

related: Congratulations! At some point in time, through no effort of your own, you were born.

Cracks, holes, and hot air

August 19th, 2013 · 31 Comments

Writes our submitter in Philadelphia: “We do not have air-conditioned hallways in my building, so there’s been an ongoing debate on my floor about how open the hallway windows need to be for maximum airflow.” Suddenly…SCIENCE!

Dear Neighbor - MORE air comes into the building when the window is cracked slightly. NOT fully open. Its simple physics. Love your neighbor. Simple Physics? Please elaborate. Smaller Hole = Greater vac suction See: Pressure diff hot air formula (?) Please be sure to calculate ?P in ALL orifice conditions in your fluid model

Every once in a blue moon…

July 7th, 2013 · 40 Comments

Here’s something we rarely see around here: a happy ending!

Explains Amanda in Fort Collins, Colorado:  “Last week, the trailer that lives outside the Food Co-op had its wheel stolen, and they weren’t able to do the food drop-off. Disgruntled, Karen put this sign on the sad, one-wheeled trailer.”

TO THE PERSON WHO STOLE THE WHEEL FROM THIS TRAILER...this is used to bring food from the co-op to the hungry people of the rescue mission & the Matthews house. Thanks to you we can't do this anymore. Please consider how your actions affect the community. ? Fort Collins Food Finders

Then, Amanda says, “Three days ago, a man came into the co-op. He walked up to the register and, without saying anything, put a BRAND NEW trailer wheel on the counter. ‘I saw your sign,’ he said. ‘I used to eat at the Mission, but now I don’t need to. I wanted to bring you this.’” Then he walked out.

Señor Tapatío gets told.

March 3rd, 2013 · 47 Comments

Writes Randahl in Boise, Idaho: “I love me some Tapatío, and sometimes I forget to put it back in the fridge. My wife thought Mr. Tapatío should know his place.”

Mr. Tapatío

Dear Mr Tapatio, I hate your face. No matter how many times I put you back in the fridge you always reappear on the counter, kitchen table, dining table. You sir, are the herpes of my life. <3 Nicole XXOO
