LOL, Wade, the homemade spoiler is key. :P

Jet, I do a similar thing on a small scale. There’s a stop light a block before the road I turn on to get to my neighborhood. At the light, the road is two lanes and if you’re in the right lane, after the light you need to merge left or turn on that road. It’s a low-traffic area, so most people who are in the right lane at the light and then go straight need to merge. People in the left lane get visibly annoyed and don’t want to let the mergers in. I like to pretend I’m going to peel out as soon as the light turns to get ahead of the car in the left lane so I can get over. There’s a lot of dopey kids who will take me on in this little drag race. It gives me a lot of satisfaction to worry them and then just turn right when they think they have me blocked in. It’s the little mental victories that make life worth living.

Nothing much, watching some stupid movie on TV.

Today I went to get my driver’s licence renew. That was stressful.

Went to donate blood, couldn’t b/c my blood pressure was low. That was frustrating.

I’m cranky today. I have a pretty good idea why that is.

    ‘Day CIFs

Rose I have to go with the latter party pants.

CB, I remember when I was about 21 and one night I pulled up at a set of lights with souped up cars either side of me. Bogans (rednecks) in both. I like winding these types up and as the unlikely challenger in my Hyundai Getz I revved my engine a bit. They go nuts for this sort of thing as obviously they think they are going to give me a thrashing. All pistons firing, four to the floor house music pounding, yelling, lights go green and we all off. Now I am happy to drag up to the speed limit, which I did, and maybe I went up as high as 70k in a 60k zone. However these guys kept going and we went over a rise only to see police with radar guns who pulled both of these guys over straight away. They would have been doing about 100k in the 60k zone. Easily enough to lose your license. Now I kind of feel bad as I did instigate the whole process however I slowed down and they didn’t. The worst part is there is a bit of me that still grins when I think about the looks on their faces as they were getting pulled over and I just cruised past. Guilty pleasures.

    CB,
Overstock.com has tons of refurbished laptops (436 models this morning).

You have Frys outlets in Phx and Tempe that may have even better deals on new ones. Frys.com has a ton of laptops too. It’s more of a hassle because the website labels most of them as ‘unavailable’ and counsels one to “check for availability’ at a local store (but those aren’t far from Mesa).

    Rilla,
Sorry to hear about the job mess. I had experience w/ unemployment in decades past. Consider these three things.
    1) If he told you that you were fired AND he told someone in your family you were fired, then it’s not “He said/She said”, it’s “He said/They said”.
They said tends to rule in cases like that.
    2) If by “no call, no show’ you mean he’s claiming that you weren’t fired and didn’t call/didn’t show up for work, refer back to #1.
    3) On the off chance you meant that you’re already in the process of doing the “work search” part of UI and he’s saying that you didn’t call or re-apply for your job in person, find some other place to apply. I doubt this is what you meant, but UI is unlikely to treat as serious an application to the place you just got fired from.

    Best of luck.

But If you tell somebody that they are fired then well in any culture the other person is not expected come back next day when you never let the other person know that you made a mistake and want them to join back.
Even in that case, where he realizes that he made a mistake and re offers you the job and there is a one more step to follow. your acceptance. You accept it and then he is suppose to expect you to come next day.

Poor boy, you’re bound to die.

I’m just a bit shamefaced and hangdog about the mess I’ve made out there on the main, which is why I’m quoting Tom Dooley. Phrases with more meanings than one, and my memory of my ‘America Between the Wars’ yr 11 history course (for which I got top marks) has sadly and embarrassingly failed me. We also did Russia and Germany. Very interesting.

Plus, I’ve realised that unfulfilling normalcy can be read two ways, and I think I’ve been reading it a more uncommon way. I used to mark my students’ essays the same kind of way. They were probably perfectly understandable – it was my thought processes that got in the way.

T, later today I’ll link a Chinese Zodiac site for you. We were mostly discussing the usual zodiac. I better go to bed now, though. Almost half one. I’m feeling grinkly and grookly, and from today/tomorrow I vow to take better care of me…

Laptop problems again last night. :-(

Had to boot up the old desktop, but it’s been so long I had to download a slew of security updates.
My mind is made up now. I’m going to bite the bullet and get a new laptop.

Probably an old Q subject by now, but I ran across a fine example yesterday morning of how we affect one another without even knowing it.

I was following a car doing about 55 mph in a 40 mph zone. I figured, if there’s a police radar crew out they’d get him and I’d have time to slow down.
The guy turned left, so I moved over to the lane on my right and slowed to the speed limit.
The car that had been following me stayed in the left-hand lane at 55.
About a mile later he was pulled over, presumably for speeding.
I wonder if he would have been speeding had he not been following me while I was following the other guy who had been speeding?

Ah well, better him than me! :-)

yay! I figured it out! (i think) Where’s the reference to Scorpio ascending?

You were born with the Sun in Aries and the Moon in Pisces. The Sun contributes to vitality, health, and longevity, lending strength of will and activity as well. But because of the position of the Moon, there may be some problems in realizing these internal influences. Your dilemma lies in your tendency to be receptive and passive, as opposed to your active aggressive inner voice. You will appear to be a quiet and easy-going person, somewhat restless and fond of change. Actually, the Moon in Pisces will put problems in your way, but being aware of the source of the trouble will clear away some stumbling blocks. Consider the obstacles you do meet as experience gained.

A romantic or emotional streak is another primary characteristic. You have some religious inclination, but it is probably more emotional than intellectual. If you can realize the internal power given by the Sun, you will acquire strength of will and a position of responsibility.

You see, internally you are an independent and capable individual, perfectly content to be alone. However, because of your circumstances, the moody, contemplative aspects of your personality have emerged as dominant. If you can somehow reconcile yourself to living within these influences, you will definitely achieve greater integration of yourself

This astrological combination yields an exploratory, independent individual who cannot endure any kind of restriction. Everything about you is free and spontaneous. You are outspoken in asserting yourself and your opinions, often turning argumentative. Your imagination is easily stimulated, and your enthusiasm is lighted and extinguished most rapidly. Because your interests are fitful and wide-ranging, you are in danger of remaining only a superficial dabbler in many projects. In love you show yourself to be generous, with warm, intuitive feelings. You consciously aim to acquire wisdom, and you are eager to disseminate the knowledge you have assimilated. The key to a more harmonious self lies in cultivating fixity of purpose and a degree of restraint. You constantly veer toward carelessness and improvidence, but by devoting more thought to others, you will be able to curb these tendencies in regard to yourself, as well.

That’s fairly spot-on, except the free-and-easy shit, but where do they come up with this:

You need a strong hand to protect you and lead you into the practical world. Generally, you have inclinations and tendencies for the following: professions dealing with occult matter or mediumships, religion, seafaring, acting, psychometry, clairvoyance, painting, poetry, mysticism, and espionage.

    Good night, CG.

I will do my horoscope again, rose. For you.

    Me neither, Wade ;)

Oops, took it down. A bit too much personal info. Here’s a little of it:

Sun in Sagittarius, Moon in Pisces

Your astrological combination confers upon you the gifts of gentleness and imagination. Your nature is dreamy and impractical, and you are often in a state of anxiety, warding off the demons of your own imagination. During your restful moments, your prophetic nature can express itself through your personality. You have strong religious tendencies and philanthropic, sympathetic inclinations. In love your feelings are deep and active. Your sympathy and mildness help assure harmony in family life. The key to a more integrated self lies in playing up the cheerful elements of your personality. With more self-confidence, your ever-present anxiety should lessen noticeably.

    . About right.

The greatest strength of Leo/Virgo cuspians is probably to be found in their creativity, attention to detail and inherent desire to be of service. They will pick up on the “little things” that others most likely miss, and thoughtful gifts or unique solutions to problems are second nature to those who fall under the influence of this cusp combination. In addition, the commitment of these natives to help others makes them one of the most giving characters to be found in the Zodiac.

not that i really believe this sort of thing, CG ;)

Go go here tinks. You can find out your rising (or you used to be able to). Maybe that influences you more than being an Aries. If you go to the short report, personal portrait after you register, you can find the various aspects of your sign.

Trills fingers. Can you do that?

Wade has a Leo’s generosity and valour, and a Virgo’s propriety, tact and sensitivity (cage-i-ness?). It’s a nice mix. Are you obsessed with you hair, Wade? It’s a Leo trait

Okay, enough silly talk. I dedicate this thread to the Church of the Big Lebowski.
Shame about the friend, but I know you’ll make many more, even with the trust issues, CG.

Okay, let’s get back to hard science. Anyone wanna discuss the Chinese zodiac?

I say “had” because we grew apart. Nobody’s fault, just life. He majored in Music (opera singing) and I went my own way, we met because we used to sing together in a choir, but my interests changed. At least that’s what I think, if there was another reason I don’t know….

I believe, Rose. It just makes sense to me, you know? I love to learn about signs and astrology.

I have friends I love and trust, but I also have trust issues, but I also have a lot of friends. CG, Sadges just went through 12-14 years of Pluto being in their sign. It’s too complicated, and you don’t have to believe it, so I will link, but, things are onwards and upwards from now on ;) Ah, only fairly crazy stuff out there. But if your life got totally shaken up and changed over the last 13 years or so… maybe this fella is to blame, or maybe it’s just life cycles. I don’t know anything about this site, but it has a pretty cursor.

and what they don’t realize is that bishop ussher used mostly extra-biblical sources to come up with that date (quite a feat in the 1600’s). but then it got written into the footnotes of the king james bible (and the scofield study bible – a favorite of fundamentalists), and you know how folks are. they don’t differentiate between the actual text and the opinion notes at the bottom of the page – they just say “i read it in mah bible, so it must be true.”

Rose, my ascending sign is Capricorn, that means trust issues, that explains the lack of real friends (actually, the problem is keeping them) … Although it has been changing in the last 6 months.

Jet, I had a really close friend tha is a Pisces, we had a lot of fun together. :)

um – too late for my two cents?

Happy Birthday oi! Cupcakes FTW! I’d make you pumpkin bread, but I haven’t the foggiest notion how to make it fit your diet, so how ’bout a hug instead? (((((oi))))))

I love you Mama, and I believe in you, too.

Glo – I think you’re adorable, and I’ve seen photos. Good grief, I’ve been up North, and skinny people do not survive those temps. That’s not fat, that’s life saving insulation.

Religion – I’m not against it, I just have a really hard time accepting what ‘the cloth’ around here teaches. To quote Owen Meaney, “If God is worried about the church bake sale, we’re all in trouble.” My main quibble with organized religion has to do with the pastors, etc. around here. You know how elementary school kids listen to what their teachers say and clutch it as absolute truth without doing any investigation on their own? Well, that’s the attitude encouraged in the seminaries around here. Lap up what your teacher tells you, question nothing, and above all else don’t think for yourself. A local preacher (my husband’s)actually told his congregation that the earth is something like 6,000 years old, and they are now running around town repeating it. And these people complain because Arkansas is continually ranked near the bottom.

Sex – great if you can get it. What? We weren’t talking about sex?

In Thailand you’ll see the girls lying flat on the bikes, legs sticking out into traffic as 7 or 8 people ride scooters and so on. Terrible accidents. We’re so very careful in the west. Better, yes, but sometimes I think we experience nothing with our cottonwool playgrounds now… Here a lot of people ride bicycles. Helmets aren’t mandatory, wrong way in traffic and so on. Baby seats aren’t as mandatory either. I think they are good, obviously, for preserving life… but I also wonder… for example, the mother who goes mental because she doesn’t go out because she can’t wrestle her baby into the car seat, or the baby feeling deserted and bawling his/her eyes out in the back. The people who would never get on a bicycle because it’s just too much hassle to abide by all the rules… Rose’s homily for the day.

Pisces have a tendency to drop a relationship for no real reason except for practical, then spend their lives mooning about the one that got away while maybe ignoring those they are with. They usually have one or two good friends. That is all they need, they reason. Very instinctive. Are you close to the Aquarius side of things, Jet? A typical Pisces is pretty good at P-A. The other people never quite figuring what happened as the ocean swells changed. Umm, I wouldn’t be surprised if you had some of the fire or air signs in your rising… but I don’t know. You can find out from that site. Empathetic, though, and loyal. Able to totally reinvent themselves without regret.

Okay, Pisces is the last sign of the 12 (or is it 13) – therefore, they are either the wisest, or the most pre-mammalian kind of bottom of the ocean dweller you can get. If they rise to the surface of the ocean to seek out Mama’s life, interaction is sweet. There are a certain number who just want to kind of hang out on the primordial swells of the bottom of the ocean floor. Very creative. I have more to say. My moon is in Pisces, so, you know, putting myself down here a bit, too. Plus, Jet, I know you’ve swum up to hang out with the plankton.
