They really aren’t that an attractive fish, and the kites were originally done in black as the coloured carp were only introduced from China in the year??? Didn’t quite get that in the history programme…
I love that no matter how plain things strive to be, they ultimately end up getting colourful and showy as everyone has to put vibrancy into it. For example, the Catholic Church only has one God, but we’ve got a million saints to help us along the way, not to mention the missa contata and other things
I’m glad though, even though many modern elements of paganism are fine, that virgins are not burnt on the altar… or that religious human sacrifice, in general, has gone by the wayside (out of duty and honour is another matter).
There is the tradition of Wabi in Japanese, though, which celebrates the not-too-bright.
Man, you can tell when it’s my evening and your morning!

They have huge university breaks here, Wade (though I have heard told they are rather lengthy in the states, too). So, we have just started our semester and everyone trots off to have fun or to plant rice. I would like to be more industrious with my life. *meh*
Hmm, Heisa has been a bit persnickety in regards to your posts of late…
This jizo is a saint who decided to not enter into the afterlife in exchange for helping all of humanity through the burdens of life until all can reach Nirvana. Helps people out in Hell, too. But, the main purpose for me posting it is that among many other things Jizo look over travellers. This one seems particularly serene, so I hope it can be the No Congested Traffic/Safe Journey bodhisattva this morning
The stones in front of him, if put there in good faith, can only but improve your karma
Maybe we can put the votives away and pull the pebbles out

i used to live in fort worth texas, and it has a really nice zoo and botanical garden. the botanical garden includes a beautiful japanese garden with koi ponds.
i don’t know about spawning, but carp/koi display great perseverance going after fish food. hundreds of gaping mouths coming up out of the water is a daunting sight.

carp kites
These are flown on children’s day. I’m not sure of my fish, but I think carp swim upstream to spawn? Not sure, but it’s a representative of strength and perseverance, so used to be traditionally for boys. But the holiday, as my students tell me [and for that I'm glad] say it is for all sexes now.
I’m terrible with holidays, Wade. I used to have a lot more friends than I do now, and I tend to waste them (holidays), as doing interesting things on them is now entirely up to me, and it’s just as easy not to. However, I have been slightly proud of myself with being active the last three days.
I read back the mammoth 4 days of yesterday - you cut the grass, and…?

Yaay, I’m glad that the freedom fries fighters did not usurp nor interrupt my link…
It’s Golden Week this way, and Mishee and G can drag their minds out of the gutters or their hamburgers.
It’s a series of about 4 holidays straight, incorporating children’s day (used to be boys’ day) and some others. I’ll post a blurry pic, soon.
Therefore, I have Friday, Saturday and Sunday, been fairly active. Today, however, was just planting the lobelia and playing on flickr. Afternoon nap. Tomorrow is a holiday, too
I’ve got lots of blog material. I’ve got a feeling I’m going to post about six.

Forget-Me-Nots
Chris Freeman
12-30-2006
You’ve passed away,
That much is true.
What flowers to send?
Forget-me-nots should do.
Our spirits connected forever,
We two separate never,
Our love for some reason star-crossed,
Your heart upon mine,
Lovingly embossed,
No real way to again,
Connect the dots,
So I’ll settle and,
Send forget-me-nots.

You are still here.
My meds have kicked in.
Yes loss is very hard. I was closer to my Brother in law than my own brothers. He was a great man! He died in a fishing accident that took 11 people 9 that we knew. My Hubby and son were going to go to , they did this every Fathers Day the year of the accident 2003 was the last year they were going and Hubby and son could not make it, so we have dealt with a little survivor guilt there. Just a stupid fishing trip.
My sis has found someone else she sees but you know that doesn’t make a replacement.
Sorry I sometimes have to talk too much! Ask Crash.

Once Upon A Time
Chris Freeman
11/30/2004
Once upon a time I fought the pain of my loss.
Once upon a time I felt shame before that boss.
I’ve learned in three months, each one far too long,
That there is wisdom to be found in grief’s translucent song.
I tried to ignore the absence of her soul within me.
But I’ve found in its strength my spirit enhanced by three.
In the end her passing has lent steel to my being.
Heart now in rhythm, ears perked up, eyes now all-seeing.
Once upon a time ocular liquid dropped into beers.
In this here and now, I shed more principled tears.
Tears of joy, those of sadness, it matters not at all.
What matters, what’s real, is that only true tears now fall.
No tears of weakness, nor tears of selfishness,
Allow a few of pain.
Mostly those of joy that her influence on us will remain.
I’ve been roundly blessed by her gentle prodding you see,
No man, woman or force can take that growth from me.
Once upon a time I thought my maturity was complete.
I’m now at peace knowing,
With ups and downs life’s replete.
I still wish she’d lived on to continue our paradigm,
I thought sure that would happen…once upon a time.

Fantasy: nice background for the new blog, let us know when you add some posts, so we can ‘visit’. I spent a month on my back (just lobbing these to you CB) last August, so I really know how hard it is to do nothing.
Crash: yea, saw a great concert last fall with Ricky Skaggs and the Kentucky Thunder with Bruce Hornsby as a special guest. They were on fire, it was an absolutely unbelievable time. They played two versions of ‘That’s Just the Way It Is’, and got standing ovations both times. Best concert I saw this year. Maybe one of my top ten of all times.
CB: I was pretty sure Rose was in Japan, but wasn’t sure exactly where. What I was really trying to say was I’m not interested in visiting any big Japanese cities, but the countryside looked stunning.

You still have to give yourself time or you could do more damage to yourself fantasy.
Take care of yourself so that you can go out and do stuff again and let yourself get better, take it easy too.
And tell your head to shut up if you have to.

Anyway, taking a quiet afternoon ride on our bicycles, a little off-road, over field and stile and then up an approximately 100 percent grade of a hill, at the top I start to hallucinate and hear banjo music, in my lung-searing determination to die or crest the hill, I accidentally break the first rule of wilderness survival: always run away from the banjo music!
It wasn’t an hallucination, it was fur-real, country-time, down-home bluegrass band. We almost died! Pedaled as fast as our burning thigh muscles (that’s for you CB) would allow and made it past.
