I went to a store with an open 24 hours sign and the girl said they were closed. I pointed to the sign and she said, “Open 24 hours, yeah…but not in a row!”

Good news! My sister showed up for Mother’s Day with nothing, making my lam?ffering of doughnuts and flowers, plus verbal coupon for a bush or shrub a veritable cornucopia of presents! Plus, my other sister only brought a box of chocolates. Whew! Dodged a bullet on that one.
More good news is we fit in a little hike between showers and saw this.
Now lunch and shrub shopping!

when i was living in costa rica, i was walking through my host family’s home, and their son was watching los perdidos en el espacio on the tv. i nearly fell out laughing so hard.
reminded me of my college days… watching kung fu movies overdubbed in spanish.

Because of Dark Shadows I leaned to do homework really fast.
It came on ABC at 4pm and my sister made my brother and me finish our homework before we could watch. We’d run home, get out of school clothes and into play clothes and hit the books!
Yep, DS, then the 4:30 Movie, then Eyewitness News (where they were always talking about Tel Aviv and Phnom Penh…I always wondered what was wrong with the news guy that he couldn’t say television or fountain pen!)

Dark Shadows ran on USA, I believe, all through the 80s when I was growing up. I adored it along with The Addams Family, The Munsters and Hammer Horror Movies. My parents let me watch anything, man…
Lost In Space was wonderful. I love that the Youtube link is in Spanish.

It was like Lassie, but with a horse. In fact, I’m pretty sure they just changed the names and used the Lassie scripts. You know, the old get-trapped-in-a-deserted-mine episode, the old haunted-ghost-town-that-turns-out-to-be-a-hoax episode, the old raging-forest-fire episode. That sort of thing. Man, I loved that show.

None of us have kids, though, so I guess there isn’t that bond. My older sister is pretty dutiful (or likes to call), my younger sister is not in touch with any of us, but lifewise that will sort itself out one way or another.

I am like that, ‘Glo - I think it’s meant to be a sign of supression - but I know it will rankle, and some things do rankle me outright. I’m not terribly articulate when I am emotionally invested in something. I’m not necessarily good at detaching my emotions, even when I am arguing something intellectual - but those who want to dig in have each other to play with
I stop watching for long stretches of time, ‘glo, and it easy to do, cos’ life is usually fine for me. I then just dismiss outside news as too difficult to contemplate, and maybe it is, or maybe it is that I’m used to thinking that whatever goes on in the world will go on, and I have no power to observe, or to contribute to lessening the pain that occurs. And maybe that is the truth.

Disparity, I guess, is the name of events in the world in general, and I guess it has ever been so. Just that maybe the disparity gets wider and wider as populations get bigger, and technology improves and is available only to some.

But, if I go out to the store, I might as well just go to the bakery and buy something. Only, homemade bakery is a gift in itself, store-bought bakery not so much. What else to buy at 6:30 am?
