A warning from the diet police

September 8th, 2014 · 95 Comments

Abby spotted this dubious bit of dietary advice at her local supermarket in Catonsville, Maryland.

1 egg has more cholesterol than Big Mac. Try a fruit salad.

Adds Abby: “Maybe whoever wrote this should spend all the free time they have (obviously a lot) researching the nutritional value of eggs (protein) vs. fruit (carbs).”

Today on Passive-Aggressive Poetry Corner: A note our submitter from Maryland found slid under the door of her top-floor apartment.

Roses are red Violets are blue You're real loud Here's a list of things you do: 1. you stomp real loud like a hefalump 2. you move your furniture like you're an interior designer 3. there is a weird noise that happens in your common area 4. the steps you take sound like forced stomps 5. the loud noises happen at all hours We understand that you don't have to listen to people above you but please realize there are people underneath you

Carolyn and her husband were intrigued by this message on a car they spotted at a roadside farmer’s market in Maryland. “We desperately wanted to know who the driver was and who wrote it,” Carolyn says. “Unfortunately, we never got to see either before we left.”

The nuts and bolts of soda pop safety

July 23rd, 2013 · 88 Comments

Stephen in Maryland build this contraption after his sixth or seventh soda was stolen out of the office fridge. “My boss told me there was nothing I or he could do about it,” Stephen says, but he thought he’d give it a shot anyway. “I went a little overboard,” he admits, “But so far, no one’s been able to defeat the system.”

Vigilante justice: Don’t try this at home

March 25th, 2013 · 111 Comments

Nicole in Baltimore says her roommate returned home from work and found this note taped to the front door. Later, they discovered a copy of the same had also been taped to the doors of everyone on the entire street. (Kindling for the torch-and-pitchfork-wielding mob?)

ATTENTION: do you know who you live near????? Your neighbor Charles L. M**** (DOB December 19**) who lives at 2***** St. is having an affair with my wife of 12 years. It has been going on since Feb 25, 2012 but I just found out in January 2013. My wife promised to break if off but I found out yesterday that they are still seeing each other. I will be divorcing her. His home phone is 410-***-****. He is 6'3, 195 lbs. He drives a white Chevy pick up truck (license plate 4****) I will be going to his job tomorrow and attending his church on Sunday to let everybody know the kind of man that he is. Because I cannot physically harm him and risk losing my kids or going to jail, I plan on spreading the word about this lowlife loser.

Meanwhile, a submitter from nearby Silver Spring, Maryland snapped this photo during rush-hour traffic.

When I was green in judgment, cold in blood

December 16th, 2012 · 85 Comments

I’ve spent most of the day curled up reading John Irving’s latest, In One Person (“a compelling novel of desire, secrecy, and sexual identity.”) And yet, since stumbling across this novella — from an office fridge in Maryland — I’ve had but one phrase echoing in my head: “We are not so unalike, [you and I]. I, too, have a deep love of salad.”

Dear Desperate for Salad: We are so unalike. I too have a deep love of salad. In fact, it is what I eat for lunch nearly every single day. I find few things more satisfying than a crisp green salad in the middle of the day. I'm sure you feel similarly.

Welcome to Charm City

October 5th, 2012 · 30 Comments

Spotted by Matt in Baltimore, Maryland…

Are you the fuckface who was parked on Eastern a few weeks back for close to a week taking up 2 spots? Maybe parking isn't tight in NY, but in Charm City, we like to think of our neighbors! Learn how to park A-hole! Dear Person who wrote this Note, Sorry, but I wasn't the person who parked on Eastern Ave. a few weeks ago and took up two spaces. I know, all black sedans look the same. An honest mistake, I'm sure. However, I didn't appreciate being called a

Dude, it’s like, what does “open” even mean?

July 9th, 2012 · 52 Comments

An anonymous submitter discovered this lengthy explanation on the door of a head shop in Waldorf, Maryland.

We open most days about 9am or 10am. Occasionally as early as 8am, but on days like Sunday, as late as 11am. We close about 9:30pm or 10pm, but sometimes as early as 7pm on Sundays, give or take an hour. Sometimes we close as late as 11pm or 11:30pm-like Saturdays. Some days or afternoons we aren't hear at all, but lately we have been here just about all the time---except when we are someplace else, but we should be here too! We suggest you try the door, and if it is open, then so are we.

Not surprisingly, it appears the head shop’s owners take a fairly relaxed attitude toward keeping their store open, and instead put heavy emphasis on maintaining a flexible work-life balance.
